The ultra sim experience tour stay this week in England and travels to Wishaw for the Betfred British Masters at the Belfry and the Brabazon course.
The Belfry is a golf resort and hotel in Wishaw, Warwickshire, close to Sutton Coldfield, England. The resort has three golf courses. The Brabazon Course is the main tournament course, and the others are the PGA National and The Derby. The Belfry has hosted the Ryder Cup on four occasions and has staged numerous European Tour events.
The hotel we now know as The Belfry originated in the thirteenth century, when it was known as Moxhull Hall or Manor, when it had been a manor of the Knights Templar until they were expelled from England in 1277. The ownership of the hotel changed a few times, but in 1974 it was in the hands of the shipping company Ellerman Lines, which bought adjoining land and eventually permission was granted for two golf courses. Peter Alliss and Dave Thomas set to work and designed the Brabazon and Derby courses, with work starting on construction in December 1974, alongside a refurbishment of the hotel. The courses were named after Lord Brabazon of Tara and the Earl of Derby, both previous Captains of the PGA.
There are perhaps two holes that stands out on this magnificent course by Dave Thomas: The 10th and the 18th. The 10th is a short par 4 - driveable with water on the right hand side of the fairway. The 18th is another hole dominated by water. The dramatic par 4 closing hole rewards the brave. Cut off as much you dare of the water, and you will be left with a shorter approach which must carry a lake to a narrow triple tiered green.
The weather forecast for the week:
Wind: high, low, medium, very high
Wind direction: east, northwest, north, southeast Green speed: moderate, fast, moderate, very fast
Green firmness: firm, firm, soft, firm

The write ups are awesome.
Good conditions as well, testing! Can't say for sure, but I think the winning score (and main field) won't be super low. But also shouldn't be insanely difficult.
Looking forward to this one! (If my game improves!)

Looking forward to this one! (If my game improves!) The course is a challenge for me, has always been in all video golf games. All I hope for on this course, is to stay even par. First two rounds played tonight: I went into the first round thinking "even par is great", and I held steady all the way to the 17th where I went astray into the forest for a bogey. 4 putts on the 18th for a double and +3 for the day. Highlight on the first round was eagle from bunker on the 10th. Second round started like the last ended, three putt bogey. Some good holes and shots, and finished with even par on the round. Must do better in round three to get myself down to even par for the tournament.

The 18th is going to give a lot of people fits this week. Long 2nd shot, especially if not on fairway, and then that multi tiered green at the end. Great hole!

I also have problems on the 17th - perhaps because I am often too greedy off the tee.. I thought I had a perfect fade (managed the slow) and glancing the trees just to find myself on the left side heavy rough on the 2nd round. Lots of great holes on this course that requires course management.

Third round a little better, but some mistakes here as well. -2 on the round.
Fourth round was a struggle, but managed a +1 - birdie on the 17th as a bonus (though not happy with my double on the 3rd). +2 total for the tournament. That is close to what I aimed for, so pretty happy with that performance.

Will be interesting to see what a good score is this week, this course is so well designed in the game, the water hazards are perfectly done and everything is excellent, a favourite.
I played ok but missed a lot of putts including a 4 footer on 18 for birdie 😫 after executing a perfect fast swing into the wind.
Finished even par but I think there’s a 65 out there for someone playing really well who’s practiced their tee lines with zoom before playing.
I jumped in blind. Standard

Off and away with a -10 that I'm disappointed with as I bogied 17 and 18!! Putted unbelievably well but I suppose it helps that I must have played this course 1000 times haha

Won't be competitive this week with an opening round at +9..Not sure the hole but ended up with stroke limit which pretty much killed me early on..

not a good start for me either.
I was hitting the ball off the tee and fairways about as good as I ever have. But putting within 3-8 feet, I missed 90% of those. I was either pulling the ball slightly to the left, (which is normal for my putts) or when I'd play that, I'd hit it straight, and by the last third of the course had totally confused myself on which way to actually putt it, missing almost every one of them. Oh what could've been!!
