Don’t like the course, it’s a one trick pony.
No complaints on the selection, nobody likes every course.
+2 first round. 55 putts I think lol.

I have a very hard time believing that the greens are as this in real life. My take on this is simple: I think this is made for all aids, TGC-tours PGA etc. and that it is unfortunately not that good for USE. The greens are very penal - and no surprise, but I do not like penal courses. So if this course is featured again, I will pass. (The course itself is very well done).

I can see it if they’re super slow and soft, but any green mower I’ve seen would leave bare patches all over those.

I think the greens are penal IRL as his designs are always like that (think punch bowl greens) and that they were made when greens were 7 on the stimp. This TGC designer doesn’t know how to place pins so you can’t stop the ball near the hole. He’s ruined all his work by being a smart arse with his pins

So when people design the real life courses, they don't put the pin locations where they do in real life? I dunno, for some reason, I thought there was some way they knew where the pin locations actually were, that they were probably in the same locations all the time.
That would explain a LOT. I know there are some courses, even Lidar ones, where I have trouble believing that it is real life. Would I be accurate then in assuming that it IS real life, even the lidar bumps, but in real life the pins are in a different, more level place on the greens?

They do know where they are in real life, and a lot of the time probably get them in close to the right place, BUT if they haven't sculpted the green 100% accurately AND got the speed of the green right, it can easily go out of control.

That’s always been my take on it. I’m not a big course accuracy guy but there’s no way some of the real courses on tour play the pins I’ve seen in the RCR’s on the TGC tours. Part of what I love here is playing courses I’ve never even heard of. Like I said no complaints on the selection, it’s just a course that’s a bit dull from tee to green and a bit extreme once you get there.

That sounds like a very fair critique; I don't mind when it's said in this way 👍 I hope I don't agree, or find it less of an issue, but sounds like I may well do.

I can clearly see contouring on the greens from video and pictures, so you do need to know the greens, just like Augusta. I take all the blame for my own misreads and bad shots, and could enjoy alot of this course. But I do have a feeling the contouring is overdone, and completely agree that hole locations are too hard many times.

On courses that hosts PGA tour events, you find hole locations for that tournament. On regular play, the greenkeeper and staff are responsible for changing pins, and this will vary more or less depending on the staff. On my local course, the staff is not good, so we complain alot 😉 That means for most courses, you plant pins as best you can.

You sometimes get clubs that put all the pins on the front of the greens for non members to keep the greens nice for the members, I hate that. I had a tournament with my society at Luton last year the pins were brutal really tucked away because they had an amateur tournament before we teed off, you could just not go for them as you had no green to work with. I can take the ball running 8 to 10 foot past from putts above or from tricky sidehills in this game but when it just runs off the green like Royal Hague it is getting crazy and it is not realistic. Turns into a lottery where your ball finishes in the green and I really don't like that, really wish we could choose our own pin locations for tournaments.

I’ve never encountered that problem, just poor pin placement right on ridges etc. I miss the opportunity to have more pins, and to choose each hole each round etc. In this game, the designer plant pins, so all is up to the designer. Too bad that Hague etc has bad pins. To be fair, I’m not certain all pins are top from the first courses I made either, and I miss to be able to replant pins and adjust default speed without re-publish.

Tee'd off in the first round with andersnm and polekatt/josia .I didn't actually think the pins were that bad in round 1 even thought I 5 putted 3 and 3 putted 4 both from 10 foot so was 6 over after 4 holes. You just absolutely can't attack them with the putter as there are slopes very close, defensive putting is needed. I did manage to leave myself an impossible 1 ft downhill putt from 18 foot on 14 where I tapped it extremely to my right as soft as I could but it still went 12 foot past and managed to hole the return putt. The first 4 holes I just had a meltdown with the putter, just needed to compose myself and am happy with 3 birdies and just the 1 bogie in the next 14 holes and a good back 9 recovery. Great play by polekatt/josia with a fantastic front 9.
