This week we head to Royal Dornoch for the Scottish Open. Currently ranked 12th in the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World. The course itself is pretty straightforward: it's an out and back layout. Many of the greens though, are built on natural raised plateaux making the approach play especially challenging. It's the raised domed greens that became the trademark of Dornoch's most famous son, Donald Ross.

Started off solid but unspectacular....-4 after 26 holes and struggled with green reads. Then went -6 for the last 10 holes incl a nice chip in on 18. -10 at half way mark. Then followed some of my worse USE play in ages. Some poor approaches and ended up a couple of floors below the green level a few times. My pitching game is pretty poor so dropped 7 shots in 8 holes before clawing a few back. +4 for the round. Fair to say I rushed Rd4 when I couldn't get anything going so +2 and a -4 total. Won't be troubling the leaders this week.....please don't ghost my 3rd round....it's pretty embarrassing. Cheers

R1 complete. A little inconsistent with my swing. Back to Back birdies on #15 and #16 got me back to +1 for the round.

Round 1 and this is a punishing course if you are not sharp with your approaches and/or around the greens. I was neither and left myself too many par putts within the 5-12 ft range and paid the price. Played with polekatt/josia who made some good shots and two big mistakes.

Round 1 and I've made a promising start again. Can I keep it going for a change though?

Round 4 started out with a drive to the green and an eagle! I worked my way to -6 for the tournament then hole #8 happened. Very tough pin placement on this hole. I double bogeyed the hole. Really rattled my tempo and started getting some fast swings on the back 9. I was hanging on for dear life in these conditions. Managed to finish at -1 for the tournament. Very tough track with these conditions but a beautiful course!

Round 2 and I decided to take a lesson, by that I mean playing with Tuffguts . And it worked! We both bogied the 8th and that made us angry. My playing partner more angry than me as you can see. Halfway and +1 is nothing to be ashamed of.

Played the first round last night. Didn't have time to post a recap. Lots of putts on the edges could've burned a bonfire with all of those. Such is golf. R2 just now. Solid shots on that front side. Couldn't convert the birdie chances. Stayed patient. Made the turn and put together a good string of holes. -11 at the halfway mark. Still feel I left a few out there. Definitely some low scores to be had for those yet to tee off.

Round 2 and so far I am keeping it going, and some! I think that must be my best single round score in USE so far.

Round 1 and I decided to see what all the fuss is about turning shot feedback off (turned set up feedback off too). Took one hole before I went and turned shot feedback to distance only, the number just makes me feel better. So here are the stats: Low FIR I attribute to narrow fairways and those pesky cross winds. Good GIR I attribute to spacious greens. Is my proximity number ok? I dunno. Bottom line is this: Played the 5th like a big old fleshy boob, otherwise I had some very nice par saves from parts unknown where I never even saw my swing. Talk about blind shots! Onward to try and keep wimigbg at bay.
