Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, founded in 1891, is one of the historic golfing institutions in the United States. It is the oldest incorporated golf club and was one of the five founding member clubs of the USGA. The Clubhouse, built in 1892, was the work of the architectural firm of McKim, Mead and White. While in character it remains substantially the same as a century ago, it has enjoyed several expansions and renovations in the intervening decades, before undergoing a major restoration completed in 2016. The original twelve hole golf course was designed by Willie Davis, and expanded to eighteen holes in the spring of 1895. These links were revised four times before the present course, designed by William Flynn and built by Dick Wilson of Toomey and Flynn, was opened for the 1931 season. Shinnecock is laid out utilizing the natural topography of the Shinnecock Hills, and resembles a number of the courses on the British Isles. It has long been recognized as one of the top courses of the world, and has been the scene of notable U.S.G.A. events since its beginning. These include the second U.S. Open Championship and U.S. Amateur in 1896, the Women’s Amateur in 1900, and the Walker Cup Match in 1977. The U.S. Open Championship was held at Shinnecock again in 1986, and in 1995 for the 100th anniversary of the Open, and again in 2004 and 2018. The 2026 U.S. Open Championship will be held at Shinnecock. Round 1. Felt like a whuppin. Mommy!

Went -6, -6, -5, -3 for -20 total. Knocked 'em out early, heading to work for a week tomorrow AM. Stayed out of the rough mostly which is handy. Felt the windy rounds I had better yardages on approach. Some nice back up the hill long par putts. Plenty in the double figure distance range. How's the green on 10?? Killed me a couple of times. Enjoy through gritted teeth people. It is a grindy course. Cheers

Do we need to clip screen shots of the rounds for this week? Not essential this week as there is no team event.

Love this course! Glad we get to play it. I don't expect to do well on these greens, but my goal is even par for the event. Sitting +1 thru 12..... Edit: +3 in the 1st rd. Hit "x" too fast and missed taking screen shot. Wish there was a way to retrieve previous round scorecards during an event. -4 in the 2nd rd aided by some really good "guestimating" on approach shots. lol Missed a handful of putts inside 15', including a 10' uphill, a 4' downhill, and a 7', I believe. But all in all, a great rd for my ability.

Nice 2nd round in the wind Shawn, easier conditions over the weekend with calm wind forecast for Saturday and Sunday.. If the greens are still like putting down the hood of your car and wanting it to stop but it won't, well I know the top tier players like that challenge but for me it sucks the fun right out. If I had a grid I would have half a chance, but without? Fugetaboutit. Round 2 another lost cause

Round 2 another lost cause I concur Art, I think if we are playing a course with a lot of sloped greens we should never go past normal greens. Other courses we should no go past fast. Unless it is a major then maybe fast for sloped greens and very fast for flatter greens. This should only be 4 times a season. Same with winds. I never see the PGA playing in very high winds unless it's the British open lol. Just my 2 cents.

Did we go above default greens on this one? I'm open to a discussion on actively slowing down crazy greens that are set up with grids in mind, but not sure we can get too angry if the greens are just on default for that course. It would require lots of playtesting and agreeing to slow them down.
With winds, I agree loads of wind all the time is unrealistic, especially if it's not an open or links course; but, at the same time, this game is a lot easier than real life, so we need to up the challenge? I'm 50-50 on this one. I think I like most rounds to be at least medium, with maybe the odd low chucked in.

The thing is Shinnecock Hills has some of the fastest greens irl they're lightning quick with extreme slopes. Now if the pins are illegal that's a different matter. The speed this week is the default speed of the greens, I haven't had much time on my hands to test the course before setting up conditions. Don't agree we should only play very fast greens on Majors as that's not realistic, there are plenty regular PGA Tour events irl with very fast greens. I agree with Wade that very high winds should be used sparingly but not just on links courses. I played The Oxfordshire 3 years ago in in my society in extremely high winds and also course in my society Chesfield Downs last year in close on to 50 mph winds neither links courses, much tougher than the wind in the game. One gust blew four trollies over, high shots come back towards you and a tail wind put 40 yards on my 9 iron

Finished out slightly better. -2, +2, -1, -4. I think I bogeyed 18 every round or at least 3 rounds all 3 putts. As far as greens and wind I prefer certain conditions but I do like to be challenged. It’s the only way to get better. Plus, it seems like a good fair group here so that’s more important than the course and settings. Thanks for the all work setting it up.
