So how’s everyone going? I’m staying away from hospitals and doctors for now, just gotta hope I stay well enough to not need to bother any of them, or run the risk of getting the virus myself.
Had been doing some take away deliveries to make a few bucks, we’re close to being out of the hole we were in and with the stimulus package I can see us being in a better position financially after this all hits than before it - which will be kinda unique I think.
Think I’ll give it a rest for a few weeks and see where this all goes. I’m torn between thinking we should all be self isolating as best we can, then comparing the deaths to other illness’ and wondering why this issue gets so much action when others don’t. I think it’s driven by a fear of history judging the actions of the people involved in making decisions right now...
Interesting times.

I think it’s driven by a fear of history judging the actions of the people involved in making decisions right now... Interesting times. I've been involved in some arguments over on the other board, I'll make sure I don't go as far over here, if people have different opinions to me. But people saying what they "feel" instead of listening to the experts, (not saying that's what you're doing mate, you're just posing questions) even outright rubbishing what experts are saying is doing my head in. And then you've got firstdwn who is just a first prize ***t. Anyway, yeah, interesting times. I bet you're concerned, given all the shit your body's been through. Keeping away from others, and making sure visitors wash hands before touching anything is the way to go, I'd suggest. Definitely agree that other things kill loads of people too, but there are public awareness campaigns for things like cancer, drink driving, "get your flu jab" etc? For me with this, I can see social media has definitely whipped people into a frenzy, and the panic buying is dumb, but this is a serious situation. It's not the same as flu, it's going to cause many NEW deaths, in people who might be old/weak, but who would've been perfectly safe from the flu. People are to obsessed with mortality rates too. Young people might be able to fight it off, but if you get a bad dose, you're going to hospital and will be in bad shape for 2 weeks. Also, for people arguing against the lockdowns, and obsessing about the economy, I just don't see where they're coming from. They have nothing to back that up. I saw some very convincing models by healthcare experts at a top university saying if we'd done nothing, it would have caused 500k deaths, social distancing 250k, and lockdowns could limit it to 20k. Even if they're off on their figures by a bit, there's just no choice to be made here. Follow what the others have done. Forget China, look at Germany. Under 100 deaths so far! They acted early and decisively. That's my two pence worth. If people feel differently, I'll let them have their say, and maybe a polite little nudge to what experts are saying and then leave it

I’m totally on board with doing as the doctors and scientists say, no argument there.
Was more asking about how people’s own personal situation was than a discussion on what other people should or shouldn’t do. We can all control our own personal environment to an extent I hope and limit contact with people with a high chance of having it.
I’m pretty sure I’m immortal lol, so I’m more worried about other folks and how they’ll be once this is all over.
I hadn’t been on the other site since having a look at the push/pull stuff, might have a look and see what folks are saying.

Like I said, it's ok to query stuff, ok to say "it's bad, but HOW bad," etc. Because they don't know for sure yet! My response was more based off my experience of the other thread, directly contradicting stuff, and you weren't doing anything like that Feel free to have a look, it's long, like 20+ pages. It's 75% sensible, and 25% edge lord BS, mostly from him, with me (pointlessly!) Arguing with him. What a d*ck.

I haven’t had a lot to do with him since the politics thread shut down on the main site. When the new politico forum opened it was a bit of a sausage festival. All lefties so no one to offer a differing view. Got boring quick.
He’s inherently a good person, but very narrow viewed, and selfish because of it. I think a lot of Americans can be internationally insular. But that’s my beef and not for here. He puts a lot of weight in self made people and right wing virtues, but inherited his company, which is petrochemical based so also frames his views I think. He only see’s right wing folk in his day to day life. He did always listen though, so I hope after his bluster (and it can be toxic) I hope he sees sense.
Will have a look when I’m more in the mood to shake my fist in the air lol.

Can’t stay away from hospitals as I work in one...in a lab so not on the front line, a lot of routine work on hold as we prepare..
Awaiting the surge in patients, will be a shit few months ahead. Have had a couple of occasions when I thought I’d caught it, not too worried about myself, just the risk of passing it on without knowing - so anytime I wonder - am I catching a cold/feel a bit strange, it becomes a worry.
Bored of it all now, and only the start of it. 😐

I can´t stay away from the hospital either, because I work at the intensive care unit in my hospital.
So far in Norway, it is silent before the storm. And people are acting good with respect to the early and good actions taken to reduce number of infections. So we think we will weather this storm okay. I think it is important to say that the actions taken are very important to reduce contagion - not because the virus for most of us are dangerous, but because too many ill at the same time will overload the health care systems in all countries. And we buy us some time for a working vaccine to be produced. The norwegian government estimate that 50-60% of the population will be infected during this epidemic. Also, when comparing with the different flu viruses - there is a huge difference here: this is a new virus, no one in the population are immune to the virus, so many more of those infected will be ill. This is why an uncontrolled epidemic will be catastrophe for the health care system - which does´t just mean higher mortality to this virus, but also for other diseases and accidents. You can see this catastrophe in some parts of Italy.

As someone who lost his older brother to flu 8 years when he was 40 which led to pneumonia and a sudden shocking death before he could be hospitalised, knows how serious pneumonia can be to any age. What angers me is the pure stupidity and down right selfishness by quite a number of people here in the UK, pubs and bars close last Friday so huge numbers flock to them for one last night of spreading a killer virus. On Sunday another huge number of selfish morons completely ignore the need to self isolate to flock to the parks to do likewise. Don't get me started with those deciding to travel to Wales for a holiday in this time of crisis, the sooner the lockdown here in the UK the better. I would struggle just to pay my rent as I am self employed, but people's lives are more important than money.

Thanks Leon was a real shock back then as the last time I saw him he was healthy, was playing a game of pool with him in the pub 2 weeks before. I remember at the time thinking nobody dies of flu or younger people don't die of pneumonia, this virus is deadly and while it is killing older and people with health problems certian others will also die without hospital care. Will the nhs be able to cope with this if we start getting Italy's number of infections. These are worrying times and it's heart breaking to hear about people dying in isolation without their loved ones.

She's a very fit and healthy person, but it's a weakness, and it was passed to me. I've been prescribed an inhaler; had issues when I was a young teenager, then was really fit all through my 20s and early 30s. Still feel fit now, can still keep up with kids on the footy pitch! but started having little issues again, so they gave me an inhaler. I never have to use it though, so I'm not overly concerned.

Pretty much things are still going on like normal for me.
That said, normal for me is that I rarely go out to eat, I never go to bars or pubs or anything like. I just stay at home, go to work and church, and thats about it. And I've always washed my hands and tried to watch what I touch, to keep from getting sick in any way. shrug. So I just keep doing what I'm doing, maybe washing my hands and using disinfectant even a bit more than usual.
I get that people need to stay away from others. But with me, working, what gets me is if I don't work, I don't get money. If I don't get money, I can't buy food. If I can't buy food, then what do I eat? So which is worse, starving or getting sick? Both with kill you.
So I just try to be as careful as I can, and pray for safety, protection, for both me and my family.

I can't remember the entire situation for America but, depending on what your job is, there are bail outs and money available? Either the companies are given money to keep them afloat, then they keep paying you, or you yourself are given like statutory sick pay while not working, or you're entitled to benefits. And there are other things happening too, can't remember all the details... If you're being advised not to go out and there is literally no money available to you, that's terrible, and nobody can blame you for choosing not to starve! Make you sure you know what your rights are though.

"After a week of Congress members and the Trump administration proposing various plans to get cash into the hands of Americans to help them weather the coronavirus crisis, Senate Republicans appear to have landed on a plan. While details are still being negotiated, it appears likely that what changes to the cash measures will be made will change how the cash is delivered, not how much and to whom." "The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, or the “phase three” coronavirus bill, includes, as of now, cash measures totaling $301 billion per the conservative Tax Foundation, the only think tank that has modeled the exact proposal as of this writing. The plan’s provisions are very simple. Adults would get $1,200 each and children $500 each. At higher incomes, the checks would get smaller: The benefit would start decreasing at a rate of $5 for every additional $100 in income. The phaseout starts at $75,000 in adjusted gross income for singles, $112,500 for heads of household, and $150,000 for married couples filing jointly; it would phase out entirely by $99,000 for singles and $198,000 for couples (with no children). For example, a single childless person with an AGI of $85,000 would get $700 because $500 of the benefit was phased out by their higher income." In fact it's all relevant, was just going to end up pasting the whole article! Here's the link: www.vox.com/future-perfect/2020/3/23/21190955/stimulus-checks-from-government-approved

Oh yes, everyone over here knows all about this. The big problem is, that the people that oppose Trump and his administration are trying to sneak other unrelated things into this bill, and its just sitting there, while these politicians argue about unrelated things.
I work for a small business. Its just two of us. So its not like there is a big company to excercise my rights against. Either we do stuff, or we don't and we don't get paid.
If they would just continue to let me work, it would actually be fine. Seriously, I rarely see more than three people a day, and the ones I see, I'm not even close to. I wipe down and disinfect anything I touch that is not familiar to me. So basically, I'm way safer at my work, than I am going to a store to get groceries.
