The ultra sim experience tour travels this week back to Ireland and Newtownmountkennedy to play the Irish PGA Championship on Druids Glen Golf Resort.
Druids Glen Golf Resort has two golf courses - the Druids Glen and the Druids Heath. We are playing the Druids Glen course which was designed by Pat Ruddy & Tom Craddock. The course opened in 1995. Druids Heath opened in 2003. The Druids Glen has hosted the Irish open from 1996 to 1999. Druids Glen has been regarded as "Augusta National of Ireland" - because there is a wide mix of colors and flowers on this course. The stretch from the 12th to the 14th has been named "Ireland's Amen Corner".
The weather forecast for the week:
Wind Speed: Very High - High - Medium - Medium Wind Direction: Northeast - East - Northeast - East Time of Day: Morning - Default - Dusk - Noon Weather: Rain - Overcast - Light Cloud - Overcast Green Speed: Fast - Fast - Fast - Fast Green Firmness: Default - Default - Default - Default Terrain Firmness: Default - Default - Default - Default

Wow, this course is absolutely stunning! I hope the TGC version is as accurate!

I played a practice round on Druids. I saw that Cathos designed the course so I knew it would be top notch. I was not disappointed. He did a "huge renovation" to the course for TGC 2019. Strategy required for this one!

well I hope it more just looks like Augusta, and doesn't play it like Augusta.
Augusta is one of my most hated courses to try to play.
Wait, I can't say Augusta can I?
LOL

Luckily, the course does not play like Augusta. So all good, I enjoyed it, its very nice. I actually didn't think it was very bad at all, if you pay attention to strategy. I played badly, for 3/4 of the time, due more to bad tempo issues, and my wife deciding to vacuum the room while I was playing, than the course itself, and still came away under my handicap.

Off and away with a -5 to start ... Bogey on 18 left a bad taste in my mouth but it's a good honest start
Eagle clip will be posted in the shots of the week thread 👍

Done and dusted for the week. -3, -6, -5, -2 = -16 total. Long putts = 3.92%. Sort of sums up my tourney this week. Nothing going in and plenty of downhill curlers to negotiate. Be careful!! Cheers

Feeling crappy as. Completely making excuses for what is to come, not even going to hide it. Als a huge chance this week. Got swelling in all the wrong places which makes a 10 step journey to the lounge a 10 minute struggle to get up, hobble, and get back down into a chair.
Old people are heroes. When your muscles are all wasted away it makes doing anything hard, and the consequences of even small knocks or strains huge. I’m jealous of the 60-70 years most of them had to get there, I haven’t even had 50.
So, having played my cancer card®️, can I have a handicap of 5 this week please. 😂
* Note - Am unwell and expecting to struggle, not expecting any handicap help though...
Round 1 about to happen as soon as I make it to the lounge. Wanted to practice the course but won’t get time to finish my rounds if I do.
So that’s 2 excuses 👌🏻

Round 1 in the books. Love the course, and there are plenty of traps out there to explode the scorecard. Hit the ball very well in round 1, and only made one bogey. Really pleased to start with -5.

Shouldn’t have bothered. Stopped caring after about 4 holes. +5 thru about 12. May come back and finish it but I doubt it to be honest.
🙁
