The Valero Texas Open, first played in 1922, is the 3rd oldest PGA TOUR tournament. It’s only younger than the Western Open (1899) and Canadian Open (1904). If you include the U.S. Open (1895) managed by the USGA, and the PGA Championship (1916) managed by the PGA of America, then the Valero Texas Open is the fifth oldest professional tournament in North America. The Valero Texas Open is the oldest Professional Golf Tour tournament to have been held in the same city its entire existence. Every tournament (92) has been played in San Antonio, Texas. Great scoring conditions this week with plenty if Texan sunshine. Expect the course to firm up over the weekend as the temperature rises.

Round 1 in Texas. Some good shots, some not so good shots. But that was tough greens to read. The sharp lines was hypnotizing and it sometimes looked to fall one way from the front, the other way from the back and both ways at the same time when I was about to putt. Must have misread a few, the ones I holed. And some convex greens too. Some good approaches rolled off and into the rough. The par 5's are no gimmie birdies either. Satisfied with the score though.

This is a killer course if you stray a little off line. Had good stretches where I played solid but greens as we know here are treacherous. Pins on mounds or close to "cliff edges" at times. Of course, mess up your drive just slightly on a long par 4 and you're hitting from 220+ yds in heavy rough. Get it on the wrong tier and you're playing a 50+ft putt. Anyway, hit +2 in Rd1 and lucked in an even par second round to be +2 after 2 rounds. Three chip ins in second round after 3 early bogies. Could have been a bit better if I didn't miss a couple of tiddlers. Anyway, I think single figures under par could win this. Cheers

Round 1: For someone who struggles on the greens this course is hell 🤯

I hate this course with an absolute passion. The greens are a joke, sometimes the ball rolls off from the middle of the green into unplayable lies! If I lived in San Antonio I would hire a JCB, grab a bottle of scotch and go to town on this bastard

The 7th hole is ridiculous. if it were a real life USGA event the players would stage a walk off, the ball should never roll from the middle of the green into a bunker haha! my advice to anyone still playing is hit your tee shot long right every time as the middle of the green is a hazard

Had a nice rd3 with 6 birds and 3 bogeys to get to -1. Some nice approaches and was steady on those 5-6 foot putts. Rd4 was a disaster with 4 early bogies thanks to some below average tempo, a few less than precise chips and couldn't sink anything longer than about 5 foot on greens. Then the Piest de resistance on the 9th. Short right approach into greenside rough, 14 yd chip that didn't quite make it up the back tier and it rolled back way behind me and off the green. Sort of dumbstruck how it kept rolling on 163 green when the green looked to have leveled off. Anyway, I had a 21 yd pitch for my 4th.....then 5th and 6th before I finally get it to the top tier.....knocked it in for an 8 and I didn't give a toss after that. +11 for the round and +10 overall. Greens were borderline unplayable at times. Hard to get a precise read never mind the slopes and some horror pin placements. Only putts of note were return putts after knocking my first way passed the hole. Good luck all.

It’s playable for the most part, just a couple of smelly ones particularly round 4 where you can be 6 foot away landing and end up 60ft away in the rough (rinse and repeat) haha!

Tbh every pin should be playable in 163. East Lake has some awful pin positions also.
