Royal Melbourne’s Composite Course is continually rated in the top 10 golf courses in the world, an amalgamation of the work of two great golf course designers, Alister MacKenzie and Alex Russell. The Composite Course came into being in 1959 when Royal Melbourne was asked to hold the World Cup (known as the Canada Cup at that time). Royal Melbourne’s two courses are known as the ‘West’ and ‘East’ courses. It was decided to use 12 holes from the West Course and 6 holes from the East Course for the World Cup, and hence the Composite Course was born. The result is a golf course of outstanding quality, with an intriguing mix of Scottish Links characteristics and rugged Sandbelt beauty. The course also has the reputation for having possibly the fastest putting greens in the world. The course is also famous for its large and dramatically shaped bunkers. The course is ranked amongst the best in the world by numerous international golf course ranking bodies and publications. www.royalmelbourne.com.au/cms/composite-course/hole-1/

Round 1 on this famous course. Found myself teeing off with a new name for me, woody2718 . He started with straight shots and 2 birdies and I thought it was a robot, but then realised I had made the same. Coming straight in and score under par on this course - look out, here's a good player. I am not especially fond of the sand belt style of courses, but maybe I will give them a second chance after this 67, haha. I think I shot from the rough once, that's a key. And some lucky bounces like the short par 4 11th. Drove to 8 feet and the sliding downhiller dropped instead of rolling by and probably make me 3 putt for a bogie. And the most important, I am ahead of rival artvandelay .

He is a very good at putting also especially from distance.

My card for the first round. A bit of a grind, but made some headway on the back 9 only to be derailed by the 16th. Bloody annoying really, ball rolls into the rough by about 1 inch, but the designer hasn't put in a strip of light rough, so penalised with heavy rough! If I miss the fairway by a mile, no complaint, but to just roll off the fairway and get penalised like that is not quite right to me. At least the birdie on the last helped the mood....a bit!!

Not exactly saying much these days. If you have a pulse, you have a chance at beating me. Just sayin. Onward.

Just finished round 1 in +6. My long game was a bit off, so my approach shots where too far from the hole. With greens like this, that means too many 3 putts. The 10th was a disaster. I even 5 putted there for a triple bogey. One hole later at the driveable 11th my drive ended up 5ft from the hole and I made my eagle putt. But that was the only highlight. For the rest it was a constant struggle. Hereby the PC leaderboard so far in R1:

Another tournament. This time it was a bucket of missed putts.

Round 2 and paired up with the always snazzy dressed artvandelay that previously declared himself a no good golfer. I was not falling for that and here is why. We battled and both ended up with a fine 66. Art usually use a bazooka driver off the tee, while I tend to be more conservative. It was hard to resist doing the same, but I stuck with many 3W and a 3I off the tees. Good to see there is more than one way to score on this course.

Got a week off work this week which has been splendid, not much course designing as we have had sunshine in the UK (for once) and they lifted the lockdown slightly so I've had some friends over for BBQ's and lot's of beer! Also finally had enough time to play my rounds with a playing partner this week so I took on wimigbg during the 1st round, Mike played really solid and looked set for a deep score at -5 after an eagle on 11 but he cooled off a little, still played really solid golf to watch. I clung onto his coat tails the whole way round and not a lot dropped till a 20 footer at the last which saw me finish one behind Mike at -3. Such a good version of the course and really enjoyed it so far, that said the greens are brutal on USE! if you get above the hole, make sure you say a prayer and just get it rolling! I did this twice and they were my two bogies!
