I was playing well at the front 9, -1. Then I made a complete mess of the 10th. 5 putting from 5 to 6 feet. From that moment on my game was off the rails, scoring a +6 for the round. Chipping was good, putting so so. I will follow Mike’s advice and practice those partial pitch shots. Too many shots from about 40 yards that I mess up now.

And a tip is to try and avoid ending up about 40 yards from the hole until you get more confident with pitching. Many use the LW all the way up to a full LW, but I am lousy at judging longer swings than 50% to 60% when pitching. I go up a club or two instead and even use the PW sometimes for partial pitches. Never a 9 iron or longer though. Maybe it is easier with a controller, but I use a mouse.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I use a controller. I will try a few things out and see what works best for me. And believe me, I try to avoid ending up 40 yards from the hole, but especially with high winds, my shots do not always land where I want them to land;-).

Have you gone into the game settings, graphics and set your Vsync to 60hz? It gives a smoother swing but you will have to recalibrate your swing. The putting mishap happens to all of us now and then. Leave your pin in and use the snail cam to get a good view of the break. I think you hit triangle, then pull back on one of the thumb sticks (depends on which stick you use to swing with). To look from the other side of the hole, click down on one of the thumb sticks. Gives you a reverse angle. On the reverse angle if the pin is too close to see the break, switch to driver and it will back you up. When chipping push triangle then you can move your thumbstick around the green to look at the undulations. If you already knew all of this then please disregard lol.

And the intent thing, maybe @sirwade can explain how to do on a controller if you don’t already know. Holding in S for a second or two on the keyboard slows the swing down works for us with a mouse.

Another good tip for putting for those new to no marker putting. On big downhillers to get a view from behind the hole change to any club than putter and press Y or triangle then you can pan the camera around the green, not as low as I would like but you can get a view behind the pin. Also don't just take the elevation numbers into account for downhillers, if it is downhill after the hole it is possible to really over hit that putt so just don't be too aggressive on those putts. Edit: I have just noticed that Wade has mentioned this already.

I'm not really sure about the intent thing. I don't use it. I believe it is moving the non swing thumbstick up some? Maybe that's why I don't use it lol.

For pitch I will use the LW up to about 36 yards then I switch to SW from 37 to about 48, a full LW pitch for me is 53 yards.

All intent does is slow down the backswing, this also changes tempo slightly I believe. The opposite stick to your swing slows down the backswing from 100% to 60%. The game also changes it automatically depending on your shot.

So you move the opposite stick forward a push or two. This slows the backswing down? How does this help the chip/pitch?

If your pitch backswing seems very fast it is probably set to 100%, the more you pull back the opposite stick the more you slow down your backswing. This is to help pull off partial shots, the marker is still there we just can't see it but not for putting.

Tbh I think 100% is too fast for partial pitch shots and 60% is too slow, I wish we could set it to 80% which I find is the sweet spot. Also remember the game can change it shot to shot, you can reset it to 100% by changing club then back again.

I turned on the intent feature in difficulty but not the meter. When I moved the non swing stick forward or backward all it seemed to do was mess up my aim towards the pin lol. How can you tell if it is even doing anything? Just take practice swings and see if the swing slows down?

Round 2 and a little less wind, but rainy and dark. Played with for me a new acquaintance, Gibbius Maximus. But my guess is that he is not a newcomer, since he shot -6 on the first day in the wind and holding his own this round as well. He was not afraid to take a risk and sometimes it paid off and sometimes not. I kept it together fairly well and finally got a couple of good birdies on the last two holes. And look at the congestion on the leaderboard below Tuffguts who is running away with this on the PC side of things.
