Linksland R1. First off really like this course. Always have. Knew I didn't have enough distance on the driver to get there on the 5th. But you gotta do it anyways, especially with that wind. Solid pitch led to a birdie after a bogey on the previous hole. There are mental mistakes and then there are brain farts/times where you just laugh and taaaaaap....it in. Four jack is what happened on the last.

First round started with huge mistakes on the 2nd - three shots from the fairway bunker - miss green left on the apporach. Missed quite a few 6-8 feet putts this round, but a 67 feet for eagle was quite nice on the 5th.

Headed out in the company of @sirwade for the 1st round at the magnificent Royal Portrush,Wade had a very steady round with his shiny new set of Mizunos ๐.I had a very inauspicious start, three stabbing the 1st for bogey but then proceeded to play pretty much flawlessly.Whilst I hit several pinpoint iron shots ,the most satisfying shots were a couple of up & downs using 7 & 8 irons for long chips, who needs the splash shot โบ๏ธ.Going to crack open a nice bottle of Shiraz ๐ท & continue with round 2.Not sure if Wade is ready for round 2,last I saw of him he was enjoying a pint of Guinness whilst staring dreamily at his new clubs ๐คฉ.

@sirwade headed out ahead of me for the 2nd round after enjoying some Irish hospitality & had another very solid round ๐๐ป .I myself missed 3 or 4 short range putts which was pretty much the difference between my 1st round score & 2nd.Once again my highlight of the round was a long range chip with a 6 iron up the length of the 12th green to a few inches for a tap in birdie. Also played a nice 8 iron chip on the 18th to save par.So much more rewarding than playing a splash shot especially on links courses where chip & runs are the go to shots IRL .To anyone else who has time to play Royal Portrush this week take your time & enjoy the links, cheers ๐ป

As expected, the first competitive round after my success at Miklagard was a struggle. A bogey and a couple of double bogies and I was +5 after 4 holes. A few cookies and a little biathlon on tv and I managed to hold +5 for the remaining 14 holes. It's going to be tough to catch andersnm this time.

Finished my rounds at +1, +1 for a total +2. Pretty consistent for me on both rounds. I missed a lot of fairways and approaches were spotty. Really nice course.

Some really great scores being posted by colly and Jeff. Finally some time to get my 2nd Linksland round in. Swing felt really good to start and the putter followed. Eagle putt on the 2nd came up an inch short. Missed a close birdie chance on 7. Wayward shot on 16, left a difficult up and down and a bogey. Got aggressive on the next hole with my birdie putt. As it smacked the pin and went in. Must admit after the latest patch, I've been having to take the pin out on closer putts as I've had numerous putts hit dead on and bounce out. That gets old real fast . Quite pleased with the ball striking and some putts dropping. ๐

R2 started off with two early birdies heading to the par 5. When I missed a 4-foot birdie putt due to a pure misread, I thought โUh-ohโ. Promptly bogeyed the next.
My putter and wedges went stone cold after the turn. Once the putting confidence was gone, so was my swing. Fast, slow, no fairways, no greens. Four straight bogeys on 13-16. Double on 17.
Hit a beautiful drive on 18 that took a wicked kick left in the fairway to end up in the weeds. I couldnโt see my lie in the tall grass. It apparently was well below my feet because the lie, the wind and a slight slow sent the ball OB way behind the grandstand. I re-hit and came up 55 feet short. A 3-putt triple later and I walked off the green as the course stuck its middle finger up at me
Nightmare round.
