I started this post, being very frustrated at how things were going playing this way, but I have since stopped chasing the best clubs to play and settled on a club set. I use the gold TM set through sponsorship and they are good for me. I now find that I get really good results by clubbing up and hitting a partial shot, certainly helps on approaches. I must admit this way of playing is so rewarding even when you shoot over par, it can be frustrating at times, but I keep coming back to it with the challenge of bettering my scores. I think the scoreboard is looking really competitive on USE. Because there is a so much more skill required it is about finding your own game including clubs that suit you. Simon plays easy iron shots, I use to play that way . I play the full pull back putt others use the slower method. I love that, find your game. Just look at the improvement in Wade's and Anders' game recently.

I must admit this way of playing is so rewarding even when you shoot over par, it can be frustrating at times, but I keep coming back to it with the challenge of bettering my scores. I think the scoreboard is looking really competitive on USE. Just to add to that: I played +80 on the Old White at Greenbrier. Today, I played -1 at Lahinch on Legend difficulty beating @pakalolo77 who has been so good in USE this season. And the reason I can do that now - is practice. I had 57% fairway, and 61% GIR on Legend. That is awesome - and so rewarding. So much more rewarding than playing on pro where you are disapointed when you miss a fairway. It was not a perfect round - but still one of the best I have played in the game. And scores differ for me. I played solid on Merion - but still over par due to missed putts etc. So I do not know that I will play good when I launch the game and tee up - and that is a good thing. We will have different scores from week to week, and we will have a gap between us. I know fully well how bad it feels to shoot +80. But I am confident to see lots of sub-par rounds in the coming Euro schedule - and the courses will generaly be a bit kinder towards us. So jeff - hope you stay in there and hopefully improve as many have done the last weeks.

I can see the frustration that this game can bring and the way that we play it with USE. It is very difficult even when you've got the swing tempo correct. When my FIR is fairly decent (50-60% that high for me), it doesn't necessarily translate to a better % of GIRs which one would think. Sometimes my stats are completely flipped and find a way to score. But as Jeff stated, it can be a constant grind for pars. Seemed early in this season I couldn't miss a putt. Now I can't seem to find the right distance and anything I make is considered a victory. It does take a lot of practice and that's just to maintain my game. Certain days my pitch shots are dialed in and some are way short or long. But man, when you get all the aspects of your game on the same page it's very rewarding and unlike any golf game I've played.
Starting to see certain rivarlies up and down the USE Leaderboard. Along with players making strides into getting more consistent scoring which is great to see after they've struggled early on.

A couple of examples, last week at Harbour Town hit a 10 on a par 3 from a ridiculous drop as did Dave C but then it is all about pride after that. I don't like the speed frustration golf and I played pretty well for the rest of the round. Round 2 at Merion, lost my game on the front 9 at 6 over par but took a deep breath and got it together on the back 9 to shoot under par. This game is so much in the head like real golf, very easy to totally lose it and you do feel more pressure when you're on a good round to keep it going.

As I had a 10 on the 12th on Augusta - but then pulled it together to get some birdies on the next holes. So easy to get frustrated and slam the next shots in anger.

Birdies still feel like birdies it is trying to not hit bogeys which is hard. We have had a really tough start to season 3. These courses play as hard as they do in real life. This week's course Merion Justin Rose won the 2013 US Open on +1, Paddy finished 2 strokes better than that this week on -1. Feels like golf to me and I have test pro difficulty and I just don't like it as the driving is automatic, worse than tgc2019 and I thought the driving on that game was way too easy. I may be hitting 20 over each week but this feels more like golf than I have experienced on any golf game in 35 years. Masters and Legend difficulties make you choose where you want to miss if you get your shot wrong, just like every good golfer would. It does bring some fear on tee shots and long approaches when water and OB are in play. Those are very realistic features. But it is also a game, and if all I get is the grind part of real golf without the satisfaction or hope of doing better than IRL, then it is not worth the time investment at the hardest settings. Pulling off one good or great shot every 15 or 20 shots just doesn’t get it done for me. Neither does playing every third shot on a par 4 from the rough or a bunker. I have felt just like you. It has gotten a little better for me lately with whatever change they did to putting. I wish there was s difficulty in between Pro and Master. I think that would be spot on for stats and scores and make it enjoyable to play. The only suggestion I can give you is to go back to the range and keep calibrating your swing until you get one that works for you. I did that and along with the Silver clubs and putting change I'm almost becoming relevant again lol.

My Get Better At This Game Checklist
More forgiving clubs: check. Calibrate a deliberately fast tempo: check. Make fasts work consistently on the course: FAIL Calibrate a deliberately slow tempo: check. Make slows work consistently on the course: FAIL. Try to calibrate a perfect tempo: check. Make perfect tempo work on course: check minus. Hit the driving range to correct swing path: check. Move my range swing to the course: FAIL. Hit the chipping green: check. Move what I learned around the green to the course: check. Hit the putting green: check. Use what I learned at 144 to 152, 163, 175, 187 or 109(!) greens: Epic FAIL.
Only the chipping area pays dividends. The driving range and putting green are worthless. Only way to practice is to play round after round after round. But at level 82, I should be better by now. If you used my improvement curve after about level 30 to simulate a patient’s heart monitor, the patient would be dead.

For me it was not until after level 100 (shortly after mind you) that I started to have more consistency with my swing. I am still not very good, but I have only missed one cut on CC-D (told you I'm not very good) and I have a USE PC tartan jacket. It is a game and I enjoy the suck. Jeff, hope you stick around but if it does not bring you joy I fully understand why you would stop.

Jeff - if swingplane is the problem, have you thought of the controller? I had huge problem with swingplane in TGC 2019 with my old Xbox 360 controller - and a new controller was wonder. I know hammers1man also had this issue on his older controller that had become loose. I also read into this that you have problems putting. This has been the main issue for me in the new game, and finaly seems to have been solved.

Good idea, but already tried. 😀 My old controller felt wobbly so I got a new one around the time the game came out. My swing plane isn’t off by much, but it is off and it’s inconsistent. My putting grip is solid and most of my putt swings are straight. My putting problems have everything to do with pace. I don’t have a feel for how far back to pull the putter head on different speed greens. Pullback and push forward speeds are pretty consistent. I’ve tried different camera views and the most comfortable for me is the high overhead view.

Although annoyingly you can't change putting speed on the practice green it is a great way to practice putts of all different distances. You can turn on auto mulligan and practice the same putt till you hole it. The putting is just a visual thing of the putter head on the backstroke for me and just compensating for green speed. I missed a lot of short birdie putts this week from misread but I alway give myself a chance of holing with a good ball pace. I use the full pull back and quick push forward method.
