Well a few weeks into this season, I am afraid to say I am not enjoying this one bit, akin to pulling teeth!
These courses are so difficult when it comes to putting without the grid and some of the set-ups have not helped one bit. The tournament at Oakmont was a classic example, a course with some of the most difficult and undulating greens on the tour and we had high winds in three rounds I believe. I mean give us a chance guys, if you want realistic scoring then set up a bit to help that. I just lost the will in my last round at Firethorn, you just can't put on those greens at those speeds with no grid, can't hit the ball with any conviction.
I will be giving it a break for now, I play this to enjoy it and I'm afraid that isn't happening at the moment.
Cheers.

Three months into the new game and I’m just not getting any better on Master difficulty. My short game is good and my putting hovers around 1.6 to 1.7 pph. FIR hangs around 25% and GIR about 35%. With stats like that, bogeys seem like pars, pars seem like birdies and birdies seem like...I don’t know what they seem like; I never get any. 😀
Tournament scores are between +20 and +40.
<whine>Unless something changes, like me suddenly getting better tee to green, or USE rule changes, it is just not fun to play. There is a line between a challenge that can be overcome and a place where the hill is simply too steep. I surrender. </whine>
I’m off to play casual rounds and career mode USE style, but with Pro swing difficulty and Pro swing timing. I think the gap between Pro and Master is too big, and the gap between Master and Legend is too small. If it gets too easy I’ll be back.

I was getting nowhere fast using the Purple clubs. My tempo and swing were just not a match for Master difficulty. I swallowed my pride and dropped my entire club set to the Silver clubs. I've been switching back and forth from Bridgestone, Ben Hogan, TaylorMade and Callaway. I think I have settled on the Callaway (because I like the hat and the odyessy putter I unlocked). I'm having much more fun right now and if my swing gets more consistent I can always move back up to the MAN clubs later lol. My stats have even been more online with the PGA whoo hoo. I think you should give the Silver clubs a shot and see how it goes. Just remember to wear that Georgia red skirt when you play! 🤣

The distance irons are quite unforgiving especially the wedges. I use distance Woods and forgiving irons. Calloway Driver, TM 4 and 5 wood. TM irons apart fro the HB 3 iron I unlocked.

I dropped down a little while ago in hopes of getting better. Edit: I would like clubs that are forgiving in both tempo and swing plane, but they don’t exist. I have found that although my tempo isn’t perfect, it’s not as inconsistent as my swing plane. So I have clubs as forgiving as possible in swing plane. The wider gray band around swing plane on Pro difficulty makes a huge difference: 70% FIR and 70%-80% GIR. Putting about the same at 1.61 to 1.75.

He was 30 yds. from the green just off the fairway. His provisional almost went in the same spot. Going from a possible birdie to a triple bogey. I thought for a minute I was playing 2k21 lol.

I have the Bridgestone irons and the Callaway wedges. Quite happy with them both. 😀

Birdies still feel like birdies it is trying to not hit bogeys which is hard. We have had a really tough start to season 3. These courses play as hard as they do in real life. This week's course Merion Justin Rose won the 2013 US Open on +1, Paddy finished 2 strokes better than that this week on -1. Feels like golf to me and I have test pro difficulty and I just don't like it as the driving is automatic, worse than tgc2019 and I thought the driving on that game was way too easy. I may be hitting 20 over each week but this feels more like golf than I have experienced on any golf game in 35 years.

Masters and Legend difficulties make you choose where you want to miss if you get your shot wrong, just like every good golfer would. It does bring some fear on tee shots and long approaches when water and OB are in play. Those are very realistic features. But it is also a game, and if all I get is the grind part of real golf without the satisfaction or hope of doing better than IRL, then it is not worth the time investment at the hardest settings. Pulling off one good or great shot every 15 or 20 shots just doesn’t get it done for me. Neither does playing every third shot on a par 4 from the rough or a bunker.

I know for a fact the amount of time Will puts into his game. He practices the game a lot and to put in the performances he did on Xbox which we all know is the toughest platform is very impressive and well deserved the success. We are trying to simulate the game of golf and for most that is grinding out a good round. Look at Dave C's fight back last week it was superb as he had a mare on round one. Not one course has been ripped apart this season here even by Sloaner, because we are playing them in the most realistic setting we can. Just look at the TST scores and they play master difficulty. It is so refreshing that designers can make a course as realistic as possible and not have tournament scores of 30+ under.

I started this post, being very frustrated at how things were going playing this way, but I have since stopped chasing the best clubs to play and settled on a club set. I use the gold TM set through sponsorship and they are good for me. I now find that I get really good results by clubbing up and hitting a partial shot, certainly helps on approaches.
I must admit this way of playing is so rewarding even when you shoot over par, it can be frustrating at times, but I keep coming back to it with the challenge of bettering my scores. I think the scoreboard is looking really competitive on USE.
