After weeks of work I'm nearly in a position to port my first course over to 2k23 - West Hill Golf Club. Just published a beta called "WHGC Beta". Would really appreciate some testers of this as I've designed it on PC in HDR so just need to make sure: - Plays OK on Console (99% object meter, 99% memory and 78% File size)
- The lighting is OK on all platforms (it's a foggy environment)
- There's no floating objects
- There's no rogue grasses that shouldn't be there
- There's no controversial pin positions
I've planted the whole course with this particular lighting in mind so please play with default weather and time of day (looks horrible in bright sunlight!). I've also manipulated the tees so that there's some alternative angles on par 3's and some par 4's (all sets similar distance overall). If anyone is feeling brave, you can try on Very Fast green speed! I've tested it a lot myself but sometimes I miss things and more sets of eyes would be really appreciated! Cheers! free geojson data

paddyjk19 , I really enjoyed my round. The course looks fantastic and I love the lighting. I played all default except for the 186 Very Fast green speed. It was very dicey!! I did not see any illegal pins on pin set #1. My putter was hot and kept my head above water. The winds ranged between 7-11 mph. I'm not sure why the videos are showing 135 green speed (another glitch I guess). I'm glad I took this photo lol.

The 4th green is challenging on medium let alone VF! I’ll probably publish at 150 so we can use Default, Medium and Fast as options

Will give the course a test this evening Paddy. Really looking forward to playing it. Hope you enjoy it, I’m already making a few tweaks as we speak but just minor things, I like to play it 20 or so times before I publish just to be certain. Like Wade said, it’s worth giving it a go on very fast, it reminds me of when we used to play the pro am each year and the green keepers would shave them, typically 13-14 on stimp and it was carnage. Just do me a favour though, if you play very fast, lay up to front front on the 4th and don’t go long or right on the 6th! It’s a fun test on that setting though, you have to stay below the hole! Hard to do without scout can or grids unless you know it intimately like me

First thing I checked out was a combination of different weather and times of day. Default lighting looked really good! Thought that Dawn/Dusk worked well with just about everything except for Overcast/Rainy. Got a bit too dark. But I'd have to say my favorite was Dusk on either Clear/Light Cloud. On the first tee with the sun/lighting coming up to the right just over the trees was stunning. Nice that you created some adjustability for different weather settings.
I did try out a few practice rounds on default settings and didn't see any bad pins. Maybe some bad shots by myself lol. Gave very fast greens a go. Since we don't have green grids on, tough to tell where to land approach shots. But since you know West Hill very well, some local knowledge helps here as you mentioned. I'd have to say the more I looked at the course and the way it is setup with good lighting. It has the look and playability when cranked up to be almost Augusta-esque I'd say. That's a lot to do with the time you've put into it Paddy. When you see the yardages on the scorecard doesn't look like much. But requires such precision shots/putts in challenging conditions.
There were two minor things I saw while overseeing the whole plot which I mentioned to you the other day. But the planting, details and everything else is spot on.
Think you might have given some inspiration to slowly start tackling Harding Park. Well done Paddy!

On USE my best is -3 on default with greens on medium, with grids I hit a -9 earlier so perhaps I’m not up to speed on reading them yet! I just think it’s amazing that a 115 year old course with very little in the way of new tees can still provide such a good test. I’m a fan of hitting rescues and 3 woods off tees for position but having the option of a risky driver to leave a flick. Good par 4s don’t just have to be 300 yards or 480, there’s some gems at 370-420. My favourite golf is heathland golf too which helps! I’m sure if you renovate Harding it’ll be exceptional, it’s good to go back to old courses and give them a uplift! Just be warned, it’s a struggle with the meter! Many sacrifices to be made!

Really pleasant place to play golf. You should have a look on Google earth to see how built up the area is, you wouldn’t know it! You’ll also see the other courses of the three “W’s”, Woking and Worplesdon, all within a square mile of eachother. If you zoom out a bit you’ll find Wentworth, Swinley Forest, Queenwood, Sunningdale, Walton Heath etc all within 15 miles. For me it’s the best 25 square miles of inland golf in the world!

Played this course so much on 2K21. The course look absolutely stunning a huge bump up in visuals from the previous game. The mist and lighting through the trees just looks photo realistic at times on this course. I do love the way you get different lighting dependant on where the sun is in relation to where you are on the course. I tried turning off HDR and playing the game on SDR on my OLED and the difference is huge. With SDR is just looks a bit flat and the lighting seems washed out, bump HDR back on and your courses flower colour really stands out, the sunlight looks like real sunlight through the trees. This games HDR is some of the best I've seen in a video game, I have to mention Cyberpunk's HDR as it is also awesome. Regarding green speed,(very fast) 187 are unplayable as the pins are pretty tricky. Pins 1 hole 1 you can actually stop the ball with a putt from above the hole on (fast) 155 greens but not on (very fast) 187. 155 greens played perfectly on all pin 1 holes for me. I was just testing greens but will see how low I can score with default conditions and (fast) 155 greens this week.

With regards to Very Fast, I’ll advise folks not to use it in tournaments, Fast is plenty, however…. IRL I’ve putted off the 1st green when above the hole multiple times when the greens are ironed. You just cannot go above the hole on 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 14 and 16. The greens a notorious in the area

I managed to hit it stone dead on 155 greens, but when I say I tapped the ball I literally just got the ball moving and let it feed to the hole. I love what they have done with putting. I also very nearly holed out on hole 1 very fast greens with a splash from the front left bunker The course plays brilliantly and tough on 155 greens you don't need to make them faster imo

I published on 141 and they play nicely too on 134 with 155 being the hard option, will definitely avoid anything faster than that! Close to getting Stoke Park across too then I’ll replant St Enodoc as my next project. Brookline will need a fair bit of work and won’t have the stadia that it had in 2k21 but will put the crowds in just in case it’s needed as a US Open venue. Hopefully someone will do a good version of LA for this years US Open venue. I’m also going to renovate Mill Ride with better trees as it’s a fun USE course and could look even better IMO. Hopefully then I can start on some new projects, keen to do Swinley Forest, Woodhall Spa, Huntercombe and Silloth-on-Solway before too long
