Kinloch Golf Club (Manakin-Sabot, Virginia)
Rankings: 1st in Virginia 41st in the United States 68th in the World
The Takeaway: Kinloch is special. The remote setting frees your mind from everything but golf and players are delivered one great hole after another all day long. The variety of hole shapes, lengths, options, and creativity is impressive by anyone's standard and thus the memorability is off the charts. Good luck finding a course in better condition because you simply won't find one outside of Augusta. When considering the Middle Atlantic region of Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia there simply is no finer golf course than Kinloch; it's that good. Grade A+
Designer: Lester George and Vinny Giles in 2001
What to Expect: Kinloch is a one of the lesser known courses that has found its way onto various Top 100 lists. Located in Virginia northwest of Richmond, Kinloch has likely stayed under the radar due to not having a big name architect associated with it and because it is a relatively new golf course. The club enjoys a remote setting which seems to remove every care except for enjoying a round of golf. Impeccable conditioning, multiple tee shot options, and plenty of eye candy are found throughout the course in a fashion that few courses can match. Even the man-made features are infused into the property in a way that makes them feel like they belong. The front nine plays mostly through the trees while the back nine features some beautiful holes around the lake including a dramatic finishing hole with water down the whole left side. A quality walking caddie program and first class service from the staff are a staple at Kinloch as they focus on one thing; delivering the best golfing experience possible. Others may try to offer that, but Kinloch actually pulls it off.

Gold 72 6810 73.0 136

White 72 5818 68.7 125
Red 72 5222 66.0 120
Golf Digest Overview
Since the only way to successfully establish bent-grass tees, fairways and greens in hot, humid Richmond was to create expansive corridors to allow plenty of sunlight and air to the turf, Kinloch Golf Club has more double fairways posing options and alternate routes than nearly every other course on the 100 Greatest, except perhaps No. 8 National Golf Links. In 2016, George prepared a long-range masterplan of adjustments, including expansion of the alternate fairways on nine and 11, for improved visibility and playability, and removal of thick rough between bunkers and fairway edges. Enhancements will continue in the future.
