Feeling cold where you live this morning? -31C where we live, but even colder with the windchill -45. Also got another foot of snow last night. As I type this, my hubby is in Toronto boarding a flight for Daytona Beach where it is +29C. He's there for five days attending Daytona 500. I would have gone, but I can't handle heat nor race cars. Then he has some police work to do in Ottawa for 3 weeks. So I'm alone here on the old homestead for next 24 days, preparing and thinking about my upcoming attempt at hiking the Appalachian Trail first part of April. It's only a 2,190 mile (3,500 km) walk lol. Hows the weather where you are?

We're just getting over "storm Ciara" here in London. "Storm" might be slightly overstating it, but there were definitely some regular 30-40mph gusts, and think it hit 50mph here, and 60-80mph in more coastal areas.
I did the Toronto to Vancouver train when I was in Canada many years ago, and as we entered the Arctic circle, we stopped in some random outpost, maybe moose jaw or medicine hat? I decided to get off the train just to experience the cold, it was like 3am, a guy estimated it was about -25, and the cold GRIPPED me immediately when I got off the train. Those sort of temperatures are no joke. I saw a guy trying to get into his car, clearly been parked there a while, and get it started, that was a "no..."
The temperatures where I stayed in the rest of the holiday were in the -5 to -10 sort of range. Still challenging for a little Englander like me...

I'm originally from the province that Moose Jaw is in - Saskatchewan. Far though from the Arctic Circle. Fun fact, I was in the military in early 80s, and was stationed in an Arctic base in Inuvik, North West Territories. Now that's north!! Our coldest day where we live dipped to -51 back in January. I guess we've gotten used to it.

I clearly remember the map of the route, basically an arc shape, going far north, hour after hour going through the tundra with trees, and then back down again. So maybe I'm remembering the name of the place wrong, or maybe I'm mistaken. Maybe we were just "near" the artic circle...

As much as I loved Ontario when I stayed with friends there, I just couldn't do that winter over there. I really feel the cold, I'll take Ray's climate any day. What part of London are you from Leon?. I have lived in NW London all my life, moved to Hertfordshire about 3 years ago.

I grew up in Islington, then spent the end of my childhood in Oxford, and most of my adult life in Liverpool. Am currently back in London, living in dalston. I call Liverpool my "home town" as it's the place I've felt most at home and that I love. Probably end up back there, but enjoying London for now...

Cool, have done a lot of work in the Stoke Newington area and Oxford last year. Visited Liverpool about 15 years ago to watch West Ham , had a great time. Stayed in the Adelphi Hotel, never watched it but there was a TV series about it if I recall.
