East Lake GC
Established in 1904, East Lake is the oldest golf course in the city of Atlanta. Tom Bendelow was the original course architect however in 1913 the course was completely reworked by the classicist Donald Ross, whose layout survives as the basic design today. In 1994, Rees Jones, son of the famed golf course architect Robert Trent Jones, restored Donald Ross’s original golf course design at East Lake to its current layout today.
In the fall of 2016, East Lake Golf Club announced that it would permanently reverse its nines, switching the front nine and the back nine.

No part of my game was working. My final score was a far cry from Patrick Cantlay's winning score of -21 at East Lake last week. The worst score was Joaquin Niemann's +4.

Can I just say that apart from a ragged stretch in Rd3, my tempo was right up there. I almost had to double take I wasn't playing pro settings.
Anyway, the greens were a big leveler and had plenty of in between irons so just concentrated on getting it on the green and trying my luck with 20-30 foot putts in those instances. Hit -3 in Rd1, then a -1 with a few 3 putts on some dicey pin positions. Left too many down hillers. Stuffed up a bit in Rd3 with +1....a bit tentative with the putter and the tempo deserted me for a bit. Hit some closer approaches in Rd4 and sunk quite a few short to mid range curlers for a -5 and a -7 total.
Can't say I like this course but it is what it is and the challenge is severe. Good luck all and see you in Season 4, whatever form that takes.

You need to remember Cantlay started at -10, so he actually played -11 in this tournament, so Tuffguts -7 is pretty darn good on master difficulty. I have trouble on this course, which is as it should be - need to be on to score well on any difficulty here. I was "on" on the front nine on the first round, then it just collapsed - second round was more of a rollercoaster with birdies and bogeys all over the place, though I was really frustrated with the short putt misses. |

I missed this tournament on TV but I did wander that 21 under is really low for East Lake. |
