Just had a little practice; Grey fast is no distance penalty. I got the same distance on my drives as before, and just a slight increase in distance on my wedges and irons, and a grey slow is a slight less distance on wedges and irons as before. Red fast on drives on the misses I usualy get, is at most 30 yard less - pretty much the same as a red slow (which I almost never get). I did not test red misses on wedges and irons as that is not a problem I have. However, I did test pitches, chip shots etc - and this is going to be the most significant changes for us I think, because a red fast on these shots looses a ton of distance. So it gets very important to have good tempo on the partial pitches etc. For me who always have played for perfect, the approach to the long game from tee to fairway has not changed. But I can tell the short game, scrambling is a little tougher. A yard or three less in a pitch puts the putt just outside the comfortable range many times. So it should be more rewarding to hit the greens more in the long run. Therefore my approach to approaches will change to be a little more conservative. I like this change.

About friggin time, there should have always been loss of carry distance from a poor strike. If they were gonna fix it for this game why did it have to take so long. I was wondering the same thing Paul. Why would they take 8 months into the game cycle to fix this? I think they are making themselves accountable for these gameplay changes as EA has re-entered the golf scene again. Maybe they are using these next few months to collect data and feedback. Only thing I'd say is the more red fast it is. It should be more of an accuracy loss like the red slow slices away from the target. Perhaps a snap hook along with distance loss. The change overall makes it more of a challenge. Pars are and should be good scores.

Took your thought process of percentage play and course management into account in a practice round at Anders' Pebble Beach. Found myself hitting 3wood and hybrids rather than just bombing away with the driver. Best FIR with 71% that I've had in a long time (just one round but I'll take it). I did find myself making sure I was on the grey fast side of things when water was right of the target to avoid the big number. Short siding yourself around the greens has more consequences like it should be too I've noticed. Makes it all for more realistic pixel golf in my opinion.

I use my 3 or 5 wood to give ideal full shot wedges. I hit my 3 wood pretty well. I do prefer the longer 4 to 9 irons especially from heavy rough makes a huge difference.

I wish I could use the LW for pitching. It feels like there is a millisecond between 12 and 35 yards for me. Probably need more practice. Using the SW up to 28, 29 yards, then GW in the 30’s and the PW to until I have a fully LW.

That is a good suggestion about the irons Paul. Been on the modified Booze set for awhile now. The purple irons there is too much of a gap while using the forgiving wedges which I've really gotten use to for full and short game shots. So went with the gold Titleist T200s. It's closed the gap on the longer distances. Now my gap is from the PW to SW. Will have to play more rounds to see. But definitely helps when hitting out of the rough that's for sure.

Seems perfectly in order to me. Pull-hooks should be 'punished' with serious loss of distance just as slices. Stay in the grey and your good. Just outside of that is also okay. Move further away from the sweet spot and there is a price to pay. Will be extra noticable with flops and pitches. As it should be. Golf is not easy and every improvement in getting the game as close to the real game has my blessing. Hope HB will now pick up on other issues in the game...

Great change in my opinion. I like to move the ball with tempo and feel comfortable shaping it both ways, but that red fast hook going miles has been absurd.. Have to try to get some time at weekend to play some test rounds! Pitch shots are definitely going to require more attention from me.

Like Anders I am not a great fan of the customizing clubs as it feels more like you are mixing your swing speed club to club. It is quite silly having wedges in my bag (I hit my LW about 83 yards irl ironically) that are much shorter than 9 iron up . Would like to play all distance for realism but it just makes the shot game too finicky for pitch shot, I rarely change clubs since the start of the season just went to the distance irons a couple of tournaments ago. Distance everything apart from wedges from now on.

Just played the first round since I took a break at the Eastern Holidays.
I was not as rusty as I thought I would be, and I really can't say the changes make any difference to my game - I only had one bad pitch during the round, and scored a solid -1 at Mjøsen GK with the usual USE setup and master swing difficulty. I would think the short game is going to be much tougher on Legend though.
