Pleased with a clean card in the stiff breeze of round 1. 🍻🍻

In complete contrast to round 1 my 2nd round was anything but a clean card 🤪

Really liked the course! very scenic and the designer did a pretty good job - couple of slightly iffy pins meant holing putts was quite difficult, perhaps the greenkeeper had an argument with his wife last night!

Round 1 on this wonderful course. Played with roggro and his first pitch was a good one. Oh, he's been training I thought, but the following pitches might suggest more pitch training is needed. But a 7 iron chip and run from the green side rough over a hump on the 17th was a very nice shot. I could not find the feel for the greens on the front 9 and was rarely close to the pins in these North Sea winds. But I somehow managed to keep up with paddyjk19 and is very happy with that.

Finished round 1 in +3 and round 2 in +4 for a total of +7. I was satisfied with my long game in round 2. I am trying to play the partial pitch shots, but as as Mike correctly said, I still need some more training. Sometimes I still use the flop shot from the fairway, but to be honest that is just an ugly shot and I think the pitch shots will simply work out better when I am able to do them well. But some more training in that is certainly needed. I also missed too many birdie changes and par putts to have a really good score. But I have the feeling with some small improvements my scores might improve soon. Well, what are we without hope;-)

You rarely see flops, but Tuffguts is a good flopper. It’s just time and training to get reasonable good at it. And I still try to avoid partial pitches. If I can’t come close enough to a green for a chip, I try to at least have a full pitch left.

You’ll crack it if you keep playing, the key with pitches is understanding the “intent” element, when the game suggests a pitch shot for you it slows the swing down if it’s a partial shot, so try and get the timing the same as a full pitch with regards to time of backswing rather than length. Really hard to explain via words! But once you master this pitching is straight forward. I’m still learning technology but I’m hoping to do some Twitch videos soon of how I play USE (I’m a very average player) just in case new players can pick up some ideas on shot selection and strategy or do the complete opposite to what I do, there’s so many ways to play so it would be good if lots of the experienced players did some videos like this

If I can’t come close enough to a green for a chip, I try to at least have a full pitch left. I don't like pitch as an approach shot full stop, I play my best approach shots from 80 to 120 yards, baffles me these pitch shots with 7 irons when you have so much more control and spin with a full wedge shot. I have practiced the pitch to death and am pretty good from 10 yards to 38 yards, it gets tricky from 38 to 48 yards but I have still hit close from those yardages. Good way to practice pitch roggro is to play your practice round with only pitch from 10 yards +, also hit the chipping green and use auto mulligan and build muscle memory and hit the same pitch until you get it close then move on to another distance. Partial pitches are like putting just learn those distances, but take into account green firmness and speed like putting. I use the Taylor Made 53 yard LW pitch for 90% of my pitch shots

Thanks for the advice Paul. I haven't practiced like that yet. I will go to the practice area later to try to hit a lot of shots like that.

I agree about the importance of forgiveness Paddy. Except my driver with all my clubs I choose forgiveness over distance. I think that helps my game better and helps me to avoid disaster holes. I lose most strokes from around the green or from long putts, so I try to avoid ending up there at all cost. And of course practice to improve it;-)

Round 2 and fighting with paddyjk19 . & under after 11 holes and I felt like a demi god. Even though I knew it was many holes left and a disaster can happen everywhere, I must have relaxed. And the strokes began to disappear... Needed a par on the last and of course hit a drive in the only trees in Scotland! Well, sharing the PC lead it's not a failure. This is the benefit of having a full pitch left for me. Not always of course, but more often than with a full swing wedge of some kind. No one of us had a hot putter, not even lukewarm. But Paddy pulled out this one from 67 feet!
