Didn't realise (though of course perhaps should have) that this was going to be on Master settings.
I have only ever played pro so this is quite a step up.
Just shot 11 over in my first round at Catalunya Invitational, though that did include some terribly silly shots....though I was actually sort of pleased shooting 11 over for a first ever go at Master level.
Have never putted without the grid, and I was pretty damn average even with it - so putting on here is going to kill me.
Had a quick look around the boards but saw no threads about putting - can anyone point me to a thread about putting on Master settings?
Thanks in advance.

Do you play with mouse or controller?, I can post up some tips here for you on putting with no grids as it is probably the strongest part of my game. wimigbg 's putting and whole game has improved immensely as a mouse player who also used to play pro swing difficulty if I recall correctly before he joined here, I'm sure he can chime in with some tips also. Watch @pakalolo77 's twitch videos in the latest tournament thread, he is a very good no grid putter and you can watch his method. Personally I think setting the putting camera to full is a must to judge distance of backswing, hit the putting green and learn your distances, use the mulligan option to hit the same putt again and again to you get the feel for the distance. The putting green is only 144 speed so you have to compensate for different green speeds but that's what practice rounds are for. Just remember no grid putting does take some getting used to but practice really does pays off, by far my favourite and I feel most realistic part of this game and there is no better feeling than holing a monster putt. 11 over is not too bad a score at all for someone new to no grids and USE settings and doesn't play master swing difficulty and also on a tricky course, plenty of members here will be willing to help you lower your scores and improving your game.

Oh, I feel your pain since I had the same experience. Played on PRO as you before I joined here. Started of with 4 straight rounds on Augusta on a Saturday. No training on MASTER before the rounds, haha. Shot 85, 78, 80 and 86. Next week 80,80, 81 and 78. About the same the week after and so on. Took me months to score -1 on a round for the first time. But Oh BOY was a sense of accomplishment! And it took me a long time to find out you can read greens from the sides and very low. And just a couple of weeks ago I learned that you could have the presentation on that tells you how much the hole is below or up. And look at me now, won the Extra Tournament last week. Set your expectations low and enjoy the game, the ball flight and the occasional birdie/eagle and you will get better. The short game is much more important without the splash, and plan you lay ups to your strengths. I recommend as I have been recommended before, play a pitch and putt course now and then to train you pitch shot. I like TPC Oakwind (short game) and Turnberry (Wee Links).

Thanks for replying - just shot my second round and it was worse. Eeeek. Almost scared to play the next two rounds as I'm looking at something like 50+ the way I'm going. I use a controller, always played with a mouse when playing Tiger Woods but when I bought the Golf Club game a few years back I found a controller feels way better with a golf game.....though perhaps not with my scores. I'm very used to (on Pro settings) to being able to see what sort of undulations the green has when playing my second shot so not being able to see any of that is difficult....let alone the putting - though I sometimes found with the green grid that a shot the game was telling me was up hill looked decidedly down hill to the eye. Any way - I'll see how I go.....just don't laugh at my scores.

Any way - I'll see how I go.....just don't laugh at my scores. You can never hit the putting green enough in this game, a little video below showing how I set up for putts. I do use the side cameras sometime when there is severe sidehill putts. Behind the hole camera is a good indication of hole slope as the more of an angle the hole is the more break near the hole. Distance management is crucial , on the practice green turn on mulligan to hit the same putt 5 or 6 times to get a feel for the distance than move on to the next putt this will give you a feel for that distance. Use the Full camera for putts as the backswing distance is much easier to gauge from the slightly higher up angle. I pull the stick all the way back and firmly forward for every putt as it give me not only a better tempo for my putts but a straighter putting stroke line.
