Happy with my 2nd round except for the pitching trouble at the 12th. Steady golf.

Paired up with Tuffguts for R2. That was almost surgical and as precise a round could be with ball striking and approach shots. He even drained a long putt from deep on the par 5 5th that never left center of the cup the whole way. Tough sledding to keep up shot by shot especially when the putter never got warm in this round. Dave remarks about the greens are spot on. Mistakes on putting speed on the 5th and 14th. Can't walk away with bogeys on par 5s. Extremely lucky and sorry to the fan that I hit with my driver on the 16th. But it juuuust managed to stayed in play. Then to get the blood pressure going even more, fanned my drive right again on The Road Hole. That also flirted with trouble. Tuffguts was all over the cup with his putting and could've been even lower. Unfortunate what happened on the last. Hit my wedge shot stiff and made the putt for birdie. Lots of work to try and put myself in position over the weekend. +1 at the halfway mark. Don't think you can get any closer to staying in bounds on the 16th.

What part of putting are you struggling with?, putting is the strongest part of my game and am happy to give any tips on my method as I am sure others here will also.
The mental part. where you relax and take your time and do it right. LOL
Honestly, You gave me some tips in a thread a while back, and your tips helped me TREMENDOUSLY. That is part of the fundamentals I was referring to. I changed how I was putting, and implemented all the tips you gave me, and started doing it the way you said to. But I had to learn it with the grids on, because I didn't know how I had missed something, when I couldn't be absolutely sure what the greens were doing, if that makes sense.
Doing it your way, I can sometimes hit 100% of the short and most of the medium putts!
But the part I am struggling with is purely mental now, I believe. In the scorecard above, I literally did perfectly fine until I realized I might beat someone, and subconsciously put undue pressure on myself. That happens in TGCtours, when I realize I am doing good enough to make a cut, or doing good enough after making a cut to hit a top 20.
In the putting, when that happens, I get nerves, or yips, or whatever, and I forget to relax, and I forget to follow through all the way to when the stick hits the end of the controller. When that happens, I get a line that is instead of straight, it goes from 5 oclock to 11 oclock. Then when that happens, I try to compensate, and end up with a couple holes of it going 7 to 1 oclock.
On the faster greens, I still have some trouble, because when I am trying not to hit the ball too hard to compensate for the faster green, I tend to not follow through and it causes the situation above.
In the fairways I do much better now, simply from learning to slow down my game, relax before each shot, and not rush the shot. But same as putting, sometimes I'll be thinking too hard about a shot, and it trying to concentrate on getting it perfect, I'll stop the stick just short of following all the way through, and it causes a squiggly finish to the line or a very slow.
So I think I know the 'what' of what to do, its just the actual doing them that I am working on now, the follow throughs, and the mental aspects. Pretty much, from what I understand, just like real golf, right?
I really don't enjoy practicing, like at the range or on the putting green, its too boring for me to be relaxing (which it what games are supposed to be), so I have been making sure to play two rounds each day to get proper practice in.
And any additional tips are greatly appreciated!
It seems your putting technique that Paul helped you with for green speeds/distance control has improved polekatt/josia ! I'll chime in to help with putting line. There have been times where my putting line has been 6:35 at the bottom to 12:05 at the top. Quite difficult to give putts a chance and stay on "line" literally. A few ways to go about it. Try correcting your path to see what the putting line does from there. Will take a few to figure out and see. For me what straightened out my putting stroke was more of a rolling of the thumb from the bottom to the front (top) of the joystick. I have shot feedback turned off and to be honest I prefer it that way as I don't want the meter to tell me how good/bad a shot/putt is before it even gets there. My thought process is to try and not think about it. Focus on the line along with speed and just let it flow. Easier said than done at times. The practice green for putting and pitching can get a bit boring as you've said. As Paul has mentioned with mulligan on it's good for repeating the same distance shot to dial in distances. So if you're up for playing/practicing your pitch shot and putting I'd recommend - Turnberry Wee Links (RCR pitch and putt) and Shamrock Pitch and Putt (shot/pitches vary from 107 yards and in) Both of these are my daily go to's for maintaining my short game. Another way of thinking while playing on these two courses is that you are saving par on each pitch shot or hole. My PB is 12 out of 18 on both. Still room for improvement as I'm losing 6 shots to par. Found that it's helped me focus more when those situations arise while playing official USE rounds. Hope that made sense in explaining it π

Decided to play Round 3 in hopes of redeeming myself after the first two. Fantastic start. Perfect 3 wood and wedge shot hit stiff. Birdie putt in. Next hole had a slider par putt from 5 feet. Lost focus as my speed didn't match the line. Three putts later and a double bogey. With Tuffguts on top of the PC Leaderboard, there was nothing I could do but take it shot by shot and hole by hole. Got the two back after that double with birdies on 5 and 7. Made the turn and the putter got hot along with some fine approach and pitch shots. Made two huge par saves on 13 and then the 17 with a total putt distance of 117 ft that I had to judge over the ridge from the front of the green. Another well judged wedge on the last and bounced back to card a 66. Four back from Tuffguts heading into the Final Round.

Round 3 and I tagged along @pakalolo77 . You can read about his round there ^. But he didn't tell you about the fantastic first putt on the 2nd. Long and up over the ridge to 5 feet. I plodded along steadily and soooo wanted to make par at the 17th. Had a 31 feet pitch that had a very small landing zone. Not dialed in yet with my shorter wedges, I still hit a really good one. At least I thought, but instead of stiff at the flag, it was 1 foot short and rolled back into the Road bunker. Next round... 75, 73 and 70, it's going in the right direction.

Think of your putting forward tempo stroke as the same as all your other shots it will help you hit a straighter forward stroke. My putting was a mess till I changed back to my TGC2019 putting stroke. It is a bit faster as is the swing in this game tbh but I adjusted about half hour into switching to my old stroke. Simply pulling the stick all the way back and firmly forward I just hit the putts much more straight now. Pace of the putts is so important and adjusting for different green speeds, if you don't like practicing much try Will's suggestion of pitch and putt with the same greens as your competitive rounds. Give less break on uphill putts than downhill, more break on faster greens than slower. Good luck good to see you back on the forum.

This major ended on a bitter note. Round 4 had one big learning point - don't mess with something that works. All week I have been putting better than usual, especially the long lag putts. Yesterday I started to hit my putts with more acceleration through the ball. Today I suddenly couldn't putt from a longer distance than 3 feet. Tried to revert to my old way of putting, but that took several holes to come back. And then we have the 16th... Had not hit a push or fade/slice drive all day, so aimed for a straight/draw. And hit a one handed slice OB even though the swing felt like ok. That was odd, I thought and convinced myself that was a one off. No, in was a twice off. Aimed the 3rd drive at the 3rd(?) fairway and hit a hook. BUT I MADE BIRDIE AT THE 17!! In downwind, but still. But I really enjoyed playing a tournament at The Old Course. Much more than I thought. And Greg No... Tuffguts ? Very impressive with drives and putter.

Final Round and paired up with Tuffguts. A bit of the nerves to start. Nuked the 20 foot birdie off the green on the first. Not the best way to make a Sunday move especially how Tuffguts has been striking the ball this entire week like Mike has mentioned. Was going to be a tough mountain to climb regardless. But got the mojo going with a well struck 6 iron on the 4th that went in for eagle. That was probably the shot that jump started the round. Drained a bomb on the par 3 8th for birdie as well. From then on it was almost a bit of match play between us. Almost a countdown of how many strokes back and how many holes left. Must say we just about matched each other shot for shot and putt for putt. The bogey on the 13th I read the big breaking 30 footer for birdie right the first time. But adjusted and caught the slope. Was unable to make the putt coming back. The final stretch of holes was probably the best I hit the ball the whole week. Gave every shot and putt a chance. Note to self, make sure your speed matches the line . In the end just ran out of holes. Probably THE most fun, intense, pressure filled round I've played on USE this season. Absolutely well played this week Tuffguts π

Great fight back after the 2nd and a very nice round there. Once you get the shorter putting sorted you will hit more under par rounds than over. I will team up with your ghost this round.

My putting has been very good lately but was pretty poor in the first 2 rounds. My iron play was very good in the wind and pulled off quite a lot of special low irons into the wind with the shot shaper. Too many missed birdie putts that were hit too hard, these greens are tough and have experienced these 4 foot tiers irl, I love the challenge as there are so many breaks and borrows, true links golf. Poor scrappy round 1 , round 2 was much better but 3 putting the 18th from 14 foot left a bitter taste. This 108 ft putt was crazy but managed to get the ball to 9 foot, tough downhill putt but still hit it too aggressively and 4 putted. Also shot feed back off and I love it as watching ball flight is everything, not some box in the bottom corner. Game on andersnm for round 3

After a contentious start to the week in the rules tent going over some stuff, I decide to play the event because how could you turn down playing that course? Enjoyed the event tremendously (well maybe not the rain in rd 3, never a fan of that). Was never in contention so just went for went for everything in round 4 and had a front nine that shocked me. First some frivolity on the first hole of the week: Missed the putt. On to the 4th round. After a Par-Humph start, this happened on the 3rd for a deuce: Chirped 4, then another iggle on the 5th courtesy of a short chippy. Then this deuce dropped on 7: Was a bit out of breath after that. Back nine was level, just could not keep up that pace but managed to tie @pakalolo77 for the day. Got closer to the lead than my play the rest of the week deserved. Onward!

I am not much of a rival to you anymore, mr artvandelay. Have you bought a new mouse? Stopped drinking? Started eating βvitaminsβ? I have run out of superlatives...
