Hi All Due to the poor uptake of this method of play, I have decided to experiment a little over the coming weeks with the set-up, so it won't be quite to USE style at the moment. I am finding existing Members are disliking the challenge, and I want to find a happy medium where players are happy and hopefully numbers will increase. I am trying for the next couple of events to have all aids off except the green grid. I know you guys won't be interested in this, but just wanted you to know before anyone played and wondered what had happened. Cheers. Then this is not for me. I have not played with grids since Links 386.. and that is 20 years ago To be fair - USE and this kind of simulation-play do not attract alot of players. hammers1man has said it is great that we are a small society - we know each other and trust is easy with our honor-rules/guidelines. I would not mind if our society gets more players, but I do not see any goal in that. What is important is that we enjoy to compete against each other and enjoy playing the game this way. I would never play the game in any other way, but others find joy in playing in TGCTours and other societies. So all I want to say is good luck with your society. Though it is not for me, others here may want to join or have already joined.

We do get quite a few requests to join in the in game society but it's hard to just let anyone that we don't know as it is so easy to actually cheat in this society. We owe it to our member to vet who we let in, we tend to stick to TGCtours player or recommendations from members. I can see Simon's point that he wanted to show his society members how good and rewarding it feels to play the USE way but even no grid takes a long time to learn the feel for reading greens. Partial pitch shot also needs a lot of practice. SimChars1968 if I remember you were a no grid virgin when you started here, look how well you putt here now. Invite any of you members to play over here if they are interested in ultra sim golf.

I now play TST in USE fashion, you’ve just got to put up with the aiming marker.Played Torrey & Scottsdale these past couple of weeks. Its good practice at least 👍 colly it is actually amazing how distracting and ugly that marker is, turn that flag marker off also and you get to see the real beauty of the courses with out the Tron like grids on the green and the ugly arrow pointers right in the middle of the screen. Was prepared to give TST a go but not being able to turn marker only off killed that, anyway I have your second tournament to look forward to each week, sorry I could finish last weeks as I just didn't have the time and have the Open rounds to finish. Really looking forward to playing St Enodoc again

Reall looking forward to playing St Enodoc again Oh, that BIG marker in the middle of screen drove me crazy. Couldn’t believe it was impossible to turn it off. Tried several times and gave up and left when I got tired of hitting it as far I could and splash it near the pin. Obviously I couldn’t do that well either as I never made a cut, haha.

Hi Paul Yes it was all new to me when I joined here, bar my TST experience, but I just can't compete with the silly scores on TST. When I first heard about playing without the green grids I didn't think it would be possible, but with practice and getting a 'feel' what to look for, it really is just like golf in the real world and very rewarding when you get it right. I am just really glad USE exists and would like to thank all the Admins for their efforts. We also have the excellent Extra tournament. I am really struggling to get people on-board on my society, hence the change, as I only had 3 finishers last week and so far only 4 this week. I think all aids off with just the green grid might give people in my society a nice challenge but what I am quickly learning is that you will never please everybody! If it doesn't pick up I will just give my society a break, getting fed up with all the negative moaning to be honest. I'll just enjoy my play on here.

I think that is because our members embrace the game of golf and we have admin that are good golfers irl and passionate about the game and you have me who is an average golfer irl but absolutely loves the game of golf . USE is not about making the game more difficult, it is about making it as realistic as possible. There was a time when the scores were crazy high but we did start off with some challenging courses, but everyone who plays here regularly is lowering their handicap every week. These are the USE rules we picked from the start and I just think this game plays so wonderfully with this setup. colly is doing a great job with the extra tournament each week, I really enjoy the extra 2 rounds and take it every bit as seriously as the main tournament

I guess these people just don't or haven't played the game for real and silly arcade golf is their thing. Oh well, each to their own!

I have had a think about things and decided to go ahead with the rules as they are on here. The society is now called The REAL Golf Society. Obviously I can only ask that Members don't use the splash shot when not bunkered and turn shot feedback off. Let's hope I get Members who want that close to reality challenge.
