I was watching the 2nd round of the PGA @ El Camaleon this afternoon. I was very impressed with Viktor Hovland's golf game. He bogeyed the first hole then ran off 6 birdies for a 31 at the turn and tied for the lead. He bogeyed 10 and 11 but has been on the par train through 16. I think he has a very promising golf career.

I told you Viktor has a good game. Tied for the lead going to the 18th. Viktor birdies the 18th to win the Mayakoba Classic.

Hovland has the day today. He was on the way to an amazing start at Torrey Pines yesterday but unfortunately stumbled at the end. But today - in rain and wind - he keep hitting approached inside 3-4 yards, 5 birdies on the south course on the back nine. Just wow. He has without a doubt become my favorite golfer and it doesn't hurt that he is norwegian

It was also nice he won on one of my favorite courses.

Just saw Patrick Reed cheat at the 10th. That to me should be at least 2 stroke penalty, but I am wondering if such behavior can result in disqualification. Anyone know?
For those who did not see - Patrick Reed takes his ball out of the rough with no one around except his caddie, and after calls a judge and says: "checks to see if the ball is plugged" - where he gets the judge to feel the ground. From the video you can clearly see the ball bounce - and it is definitely not plugged. Can he have pressed the ball to create a plugged "feel" in the ground to fool the judge? Firstly - he should never move the ball without either a marker or a judge present. And it is just behavior that have nothing to do on top level (I have seen plenty of cheating in the rough in amateur settings) - and when it all is on TV - it is baffling..

Tbh this and PM in the US Open purposely hitting an illegal shot and the crowds cheering at Hazeltine Ryder Cup when European players hit their shots in the water is not real golf to me. I will never forget Lee Westwood calling a double on hit on his chip though camera replays didn't show that he did. He went on to win that tournament in America even with the 2 stroke penalty, the right way imo because he believed hit played an illegal shot and that is what matters. I hate cheating and disrespect for your opponents, golf is not only a game to me it is about sportsmanship and etiquette.

I hate cheating and disrespect for your opponents, golf is not only a game to me it is about sportsmanship and etiquette. Agree. I have read up on the rules, and this situation with Reed is aweful handled. He is clearly entitled to check if his ball is embedded - and he has a reason since no one in his group saw the ball bounce. That is okay. We can see on TV that it bounced and that it never can be embedded after that bounce. So he calls out to the other players and caddies and says he is going to check if it is embedded. He do not wait for others to join him in this, and do not make any attempt to check it without moving the ball. He marks the ball, lift it - it is hard to tell if he leans on to it or not - but then he spends like 15 seconds digging with his fingers in the spot - says to his caddie to call an official. He has dirt on his fingers, start to clean it off on his towel before the official arrives - then quickly do the rest inside his pocket on his trousers. I am not familiar with how they do with players being marker for each other as I am used to in amateur golf - but I believe it is so. They do sign their scorecards etc. I am very clear that as a marker I want to see what the player do to his ball, watch drops etc. There are no one near Reed when he picks his ball and checks the spot. As for penalties for what he has done - he has marked the ball, no problem there. But, if the ball was not embedded he has played the ball from the wrong place. This is a one shot penalty, and he then needs to go back and play the ball from the correct place - as it was before he picked it up. If he don't correct his mistakes before he makes his first shot on the next hole, he is disqualified. So in this situation, if the officials find that he has played from the wrong place - he must be disqualified. I think however the PGA Tour lets him get away with it - and that is disgusting. There are so much video evidence that he very likely have manipulated the situation to get free relief from a difficult spot deep in the rough. This is not gentleman golf. And I see there are a bit controversy to rule breaking when it comes to Patrick Reed in the past. This player has forever lost my respect.

So nice to hear Faldo and co talk about the incident on CBS. Just the same as I thought: you call your marker, have him look at the ball with you before you even touch the ball. And the main principles as I learned when I started to play golf: you play the course as it is, and you play the ball as it lies. Back to Hovland - he is back today! For a win!..

Great attitude from Victor, some interview after that blow up on 18 at concession ππ»ππ» Just watched this. That bunker shot straight at the pin was a shot he would think twice about next time, was never going to get that close from the position in the bunker. The percentage shot would be to come out more sideways. Very good player, European golf is very strong with some great younger up and coming golfers.

Viktor appears to be on a hot streak in the 4th round. I would love to see him come back and win the tournament. Especially after his blow up on #18 hole in R2. That would be awesome.

Back this week with great play. Watching round 2 now - and I appologize to Day - but I did get a laugh at his result of the drive on the 16th where he ended up in a birds nest in a tree! Lucky he could get help from some cameras to identidy his ball so he could take an unplayable. 3 minutes to identidy the ball - no way anyone could climb the tree..

Not sure if anyone is watching the PGA Championship - but it is fun. 30 mph wind in the face on the first holes this day. I think Hovland has a chance for his first major - and that is incredible
