Thanks Paul, I did a lot of upgrades cooling with that price as thought it might be good to future proof the setup, I’m definitely going to go for the 3080 as it might be that I end up playing my rounds on this if it’s much better than PS4 You might get lucky buying a pre build for actually getting an RTX 3080. I don't think I have any chance of finding one in stock this year. It says pre-order so guessing they are waiting but in my mind it's worth me waiting and doing it this way - thanks for pointing me in the right direction

It says pre-order so guessing they are waiting but in my mind it's worth me waiting and doing it this way - thanks for pointing me in the right direction It is waiting in Norway as well, but I could buy pre-build computers with the 30 series - including 3090 (which is a major price-jump compared to 3080). As for RAM - I don't agree with Paul on this. I have had 32 GB on my last computers. And I think the price is worth it to get good quality and enough RAM (most important in combination with processing power (CPU) on heavy duty things like video rendering - so important in games as well). Though, with what you are thinking of - you will have no problem with playing the best games on the highest settings with good FPS in 4K. I think the difference in RAM is in speed, and a quick look at my vendor, DDR4 2666 MHz looks like most value for money right now in Norway.

Thanks for all your help guys, went ahead and ordered a custom build PC with your recommendations and overkilled everything because... well just because I do that with things!
The guy I spoke to reckons it'll be 2 months before the 3080 card is back in stock but reckons custom builds will have priority rather than individual purchasers when they do.
For some reason my screenshot button isn't working so used good ole copy and paste

That is a monster paddy - and a PC for many years to come. It will handle any game with ease on high settings in many years forward

I have 32 GB of Corsair VENGENCE 3200MHz and will be getting the RTX 3080 when it's in stock as an upgrade to my GTX 1080. I also have a Corsair 750W PSU which I have to say is a little bit tight for the RTX 3080 but should be just ok, personally if I was you I would go for an 850W minimum PSU.

hammers1man I'm just updating my order now to a better power supply - It also got me thinking about cables required for this, my monitor has HDMI, Display Port and DVI I think, do modern units normally come with all the above as standard? my laptop has HDMI with nothing else, have desktops gone that way too now? I've got loads of HDMI cables but not DP or DVI so will order if you think I;ll need them? Cheers

Sorry if it's a stupid question but I've got AMD Free sync on my montior, is that similar to G-sync? I've got a Display Port cable, would you always recommend that over HDMI? Even for 4k gaming?

Yes freesync and Gsync are variable refresh rate. Nvidia cards never used to with work with freesync but latest drivers allow it. I did read you need to connect with a display port cable though.

Just chiming in. My XBox One controller got in the ground today, and the contact is a bit bad now.
So I have looked into new controllers, because I think I need to go shopping tomorrow as it is really frustrating to play when the connection all the times interupts. I am thinking of buying a Razer Wolverine Ultimate controller.. Anyone with any experience on this? The alternative is an XBox Elite 2..

Just a quick heads up @hammers1man finally got a shipping notification for my PC build which means you might be able to get hold of the 3080 now, will see you guys on PC no doubt very soon! Can't wait! andersnm what controller did you go for in the end? I've got a Nacon Pro 2 which I use for designing and also playing on PS4 (never had issues on TGCT as it's more sensitive than Dualshock but I can't play with the thumb position on dualshock), I got this controller so I could have something like the xbox controller for my PS4 gaming, did you get the Xbox Elite in the end? or did you go Razer? would be good to hear your comparisons between the two Thanks!
