The season has come to an end. And as we take a break in front of the next season - we take a trip to England and Bishop Auckland GC to play a tournament. So no time to relax. Prestige is on the line here.
Bishop Auckland Golf Club is situated on the High Plains, an area of parkland surrounding the Bishop of Durham's Palace. The Palace dates back to Norman times when the mediaeval Prince Bishops were rich and powerful. They ruled over the Palatinate of Durham, commanding their own armies and defending the north of England against the marauding Scots. Around 1890 golf was played in the outer park at Bishop Auckland by theological students training at the Castle. No doubt they lacked the expertise to improve the ground and simply played over it in its natural state, but they were the first evidence that golf fever had reached Bishop Auckland and they paved the way for the development of a proper course. On 28 July 1894 a group of business and professional men met in the Market Place in the office of Mr F Badcock, a solicitor, to discuss the establishment of a golf club in the town.

Finished my rounds, -5, -6, -1, -4. -16 total. Left two strokes on the 18th on the second round. Three putt for bogey from 4 feet. Played pretty solid, but left myself in some bad positions too often which can happen on this course (like missing left all the time on the 8th).

-2,-7,-2,-10 for -21 Snowman on hole 17 R3 really pissed me off so made up for it R4. Seriously my putting has been off all week. Holed a half dozen chip though.

I'm also hitting the ball solid, but if you miss slightly, it seems like you are in a bad way. Plus, on R2, I think I missed about 8 putts by centimeters. lol

Started with -9 and -7. Took advantage of the early par 5's and short first hole. A couple of eagles in there. It was a real stern test of long range putting. Putted off the green a couple of times. Chipped in for par on one of those. Felt like I really had to look hard at some of the 4-5 footers for subtle breaks as well. No bashing it into the back of the hole. Cheers

Sorry but did not find joy in playing my rounds here. It's not the course, but maybe I need a USE break. We will see.

no shame in taking a break, my friend.
I needed one a couple weeks or so ago, so I stopped worrying about finishing matches. Only played sparingly when I felt like it, and it helped. Now I'm refreshed and having fun again.

Sorry but did not find joy in playing my rounds here. It's not the course, but maybe I need a USE break. We will see. That is the nice thing about this society - it's totaly okay to skip tournaments. There are not many here who have played all. And we are also now on a break, so it is just a stand alone tournament. We set it up so we have something to play while we wait for the new game. And you know, even the best players in the world have to take a break from the PGA schedule and not play every tournament even though they can. Hope you find the joy again Art Always nice to see you on the leaderboard.
