For week 47, we travel to Texas for WGC Dell Technologies Matchplay at the beautiful Austin Country Club.
This 180-acre golf course is the third home for Austin Country Club since its founding in 1899. Designed by Pete Dye, whom Golfweek Magazine named one of the top architects in the world, the course has been characterized as a "complex and guileful challenge". With its deep pot bunkers, undulating turf, and dramatic 18th hole fairway fall, the course is reminiscent of those Scottish classics Royal Dornoch and Gullane Hill.
A Texas accent is added by extensive use of massive limestone slabs, quarried on site, to build revetments for tees, greens and fairways. Like the land where the game was born, this course has its "lowlands" and "highlands".
Holes three through seven, nearest the lake, are the lowlands. The rest of the course is higher and more typical of the Texas Hill Country.
The course embodies the principle of playing to restricted targets. Indiscriminate play simply to the close-mown area of the fairway will only by accident provide the comfortable approach. Similarly, a good birdie chance or an easy two-putt is unlikely unless the approach is precise enough to end on a particular part of the green.
Yet aggressive play to the most desired targets often crowds the course's amply-provided hazards. Players enjoy a truly unique golfing experience.

Round 1: very slow start with missed birdies on the first two holes - though a good par save on 3. Back nine was much better - but I kept leaving myself too many downhill putts on this round to be really great.

Round 2: Much better overall. Though, missed a 3 foot birdie on the 12th. A perfect 95% on the 15th left a 4 foot birdie.

First two rounds are in at the WGC Dell Technologies Matchplay. Round 1 missed a lot of birdie putts. Finished at (-1). Round 2 I played much better, finished at (-7). Although I forgot to save a screenshot of my scorecard. I hate when i do that!! I had to play my ghost. I'm at (-8) through 2 rounds. Really love this course.

Round 4: Very solid and good round. Making the total to -25 to set a high bar for hammers1man Actually think I can make it pretty high on the leaderboard for this tournament. This was by far the best tournament I have played in USE with three bogey free rounds.

I will have to shoot -17 in the final two rounds just to tie you. I don't think that's going to happen lol.

Went -8, -6, -6, -7 for a -27 total. I must say my putter was my No1 club this tourney....not on fire all the time but sunk quite a few long putts and a number of those 8-15 footers that are usually my bane. Glad for the 163 greens....still had plenty of slippery putts...prob why they weren't set any higher than that?!? Highlight?? was pulling my tee shot in the water left on the 2nd in round 4. Dropped a fair way back to get it over the trees instead of laying up.....hit a blind shot 2 hybrid to 30 feet and sunk the par putt. Put a smirk on my face. Anyway, good luck all. Cheers and hopefully getting my first real life round for nearly 2 years next Monday.

LOL!!!!! I just realized I read LKeet6 's description wrong. He says something about the 18th fairway fall. I read that to mean fall of the year colors, but I think he must mean something else there!
