Hey guys, I know you guys all play REAL golf, and you know if you've read that I only played it casually like about 20 or so years ago.
But I DID play disc golf, quite regularly up until about 3 years ago.
I don't think I have ever mentioned that here.
I enjoy disc golf because its free, and great exercise. I stopped playing because it started hurting my wrist, very badly, where you flick the disc. I mean, I couldn't play over 4 holes without pain. So I chalked it up to old age, and hung up my discs.
Well, until this weekend.
My son and his friends play, and they were going out to play a new 9 hole course that is very local to my house on Saturday. I was listening to them talk about it, and of course interested since I used to play, and finally he looked at me and says, 'pop, you wanna come along with us?' I thought for a few, and said, you know what, yeah, I'd love to come and try it again, and if my wrist hurts, I'll just walk the course with you guys as you play.
Turns out, I played, and had NO PAIN, in my wrist OR my elbow!! I played pretty bad, was 9 over par, BUT I thought that was pretty good for not throwing a disc at all in 3 years, and not even practicing before the round!
So do any of you play? The neighbor mowed my pasture yesterday, so I'm apt now to get my discs and do some practicing and get back on that horse! Giddyup!

In what I thought would never relate to this topic, my wife and I took advantage of nice weather to grab some food and go eat lunch at a park. What we found it this park for the only place in some shade was a bench near the 12th tee of a disc golf course.
What we witnessed during the time it took us to eat our burritos was:
Two guys maybe in their 30s, have played disc golf before but never that course. Not too bad but they were the first ones we saw.
Next two Mormon Missionaries, two very young chaps who were much better but were happy to chat us up then move on their way.
Then a foursome of 20 somethings, playing music and enjoying some pot. Good players, one lady who seemed higher than good.
The final twosome was really good. Young and tatted up, a heavyset guy and his girl. Both could fling it.
None of this and the setting inspired me to take up this game, but if it gets you off the couch and moving....and Josia said Giddyup!

It is played on a a real DISC golf course. hahah.
The courses are designated for disc golf, and permanent, but they are not the same as real golf courses. You find them all over the place, mainly at public parks. The holes are baskets, on a pole about 4 ft high, with chains to catch the discs.
Other than the ball being a disc, and the hole being a basket, everything else works pretty much the same as real golf.
The holes are generally about 150-200 ft away for the par 3's, and further for the par 4s and 5s.
You have different discs, that do different things, different distances and curves or putters, pretty much the same as clubs in real golf. You walk up to your shot, assess how far away you are, and your lie, and then you pick a disc from your bag that will do what you want. Then the throwing motion is the same just how much power you put behind it, and backhand or forehand. (if you throw backhand, the disc spins opposite, causing it to curve the opposite way)
There are no sand traps, but disc golf courses are usually through the woods, and way tighter than real golf holes, and yes, water is the same, very abundant and has a built in magnet to draw discs towards it.

I've tried this 4 rounds now. Got myself 11 discs and it is great fun. We have a couple of courses, so it's easy to go and throw - takes much less time than regular golf.
