We are in Southhampton, New York in Long Island to play MacDonald Invitational at the National Golf Links of America.
National Golf Links of America is very close neighbour to Shinnecock Hills, and was designed by Charles B. MacDonald with Seth Raynor as supervisor. The course opened in 1911 and was called National Golf Links of America because of 67 founding members who resided in various part of the country. MacDonald was schooled at the university at St Andrews in Scotland during the 1870's. There he was introduced to golf at the Old Course playing many rounds with Tom Morris.

Blah blah blah......could not hit an approach close nearly all tourney. In between clubs and instead of just hitting the green, tried to finesse under powered shots and almost always fluffed it. Greens were tricky perhaps due to a lack of texture. Although I could get the "gist" of the break, couldn't nail many decent putts apart from a couple of lucky long ones. Lost patience in Rd4. Some big slopes and I perhaps rushed a bit as usual. Finished -9 and just pipped Gibbius Maximus who looked to have had a great final round. "Onwards" as they say in the classics.

R1 (-4) R2 (-5) sitting at (-9) at the halfway mark. HIO on the par 3 13th didn't hurt.

I would of taken a 68 at the start but frustrating because the amount of birdies putts missed under 10 foot and the quite extraordinary start to my round. I have never had a start like this, chip in birdie on 1, chip in eagle on 2, 18 yard pitch in on 3 and and my first USE tournament ace on 2K21 on hole 4. 6 under after 4 without a single putt .

Funny bug in round one,I picked Simon's ghost but it didn't show his shots for some reason.

Another very good course on the Master Tour. Some good pitches early on to save par, but about 3 grey fast approaches were enough to miss the green on the left on tucked pins to leave tough scrambling shots. There are spots where you don't want to land including the green, hole 15 landed about 15 foot short with too much backspin which rolled back to the front of the green for an 88 foot 3 foot uphill putt. I actually hit the putt full power and got it hole high to the left of the cup. Too aggressive on the par putt and a 4 putt double bogey. Managed a birdie on 18 for a hard fought 74. Quite a bunched up leaderboard after 2 rounds, though Topflight is playing some great stuff with a bit of daylight in 1st.
