Since I’m fairly new to this society I thought I’d start a thread for newbies to introduce themselves and to get to know people better.
I’ll go first;
Real name: Pat, Paddy, Patrick - take your pick! Country: England TGCT membership: Euro journeyman Course Designer: Yes Published Courses: Mill Ride, Stoke Park Favourite Courses on TGC: Fishers Island, Friars Head Golfer IRL?: Yes, spent 7 years as a PGA teaching professional with playing aspirations before chipping yips got me into debt, had a 3 year break from the game but play for fun these days once or twice a month when I can find time! Enjoying the game without the pressure! Interests / hobbies: Designing courses on here, learning guitar, walking my rescue dog, my patient other half, Oasis, beer! USE aspirations: create lots of good RCRs we can use and win and event one day!

I’m not new as I started late last season, but I never really introduced myself -
Real name : Jeff, but I actually prefer booze as this has been my real life nickname in the past...so either works.
Country: USA
TGCT membership : PGA (and Sim if you’re counting that)
Course Designer : No
Published courses : n/a
Favorite Courses on TGC : BD’s silly 7s. J/k lol. Hmmm...I really have no idea. I usually only remember famous courses that I’ve watched on tv. I’ve always liked St Andrews so I’ll just say that I guess. There will be a lot of courses that I’ll like, but I just won’t remember the names.
Golfer IRL? : Nope, just hacked my way around maybe 3 times years ago. I only watch on tv and play video games. I love watching PGA, I’ll watch any event really, but the big events are the ones that will have me glued for hours.
Interests / hobbies : Working out, drinking beer, trivia games, walking around my house with an EMF meter (“ghost investigating” lol) ,watching sports
USE aspirations : my goal each round is really just to not bogey, or do anything ridiculously stupid like fasting into the water, for example. I’m competitive and also an anxious person, so there will always be some nerves when I play, but it’s so much less than the stress I feel playing PGA. The whole par is a bogey mentality is really draining, especially when it’s an easy setup. I prefer when it’s very high wind, very fast, etc. Its actually less stressful and more enjoyable lol
A little more background - This is the first version I’ve played of The Golf Club. I got it I think last April, the last golf game I had prior was Masters 14 (LOVED that game!). I avoided Golf Club for a long time due to not having real golfer licenses, and not many real courses. I knew nothing of the course creation. Eventually I said what the heck...and got it. Interestingly enough, when I joined the Sim tour here, I instantly recognized a few names from a sim club I was a member of in that Masters game. Smiffy and Trowelhead for sure...and I think Habs25 too. There’s probably others I’m sure too, hard to remember as it was a long time ago.

Real name : Art works for me.
Country: USA, I use the Zimbabwe flag for three reasons: Swaziland (or Siswati) flag does not register here, I have visited Zim before and it is easy to find on the TGCT leaderboards.
TGCT membership : KF for now, still looking for the first cut made.
Course Designer : No
Published courses : n/a
Favorite Courses on TGC : RCRs, LiDARs, anything realistic really. Don't like courses that have a geographical setup that could not be accomplished IRL.
Golfer IRL? : Yes. Handicap is currently 15, was a 7 at my best. Enjoy the game more now than when I was driven to try and lower my handicap. One HIO back in the 90s, good times.
Interests / hobbies : Hand modeling, import/export, chasing Mrs. Vandelay around the sofa.
USE aspirations : To enjoy the round. Usually don't have time to play with others but have taken to playing turn based with a ghost if I have time. Would love to play live with another PC mouser, someday.

Interests / hobbies : Hand modeling, import/export, chasing Mrs. Vandelay around the sofa. Do you import/export matches or chips by any chance? Nice to see you are doing both importing and exporting and not just focusing on one.

Real name : Anders (doh)
Country: Norway
TGCT membership : Have played 2 TST tournaments, but I am not a fan of unrealistic low scores. Much better here.
Course Designer : Doing RCR's. No interest in making fictional stuff.
Published courses : Mjøsen GK (Mjoesen GK in game) was my first venture - my home course. I probably should do a new version of the course at some time. Atlungstad Golf is my other home course. Miklagard Golf, Lofoten Links, Bjaavann GK, Losby GK east course, Holtsmark Golf. All these are norwegian courses. I have also done Harbour Town GL and Club de Golf Alcanada. Himmerland Golf & Spa - both Backtee and Garia course, and also a Made in Denmark 2019 routing.
Favorite Courses on TGC: Good RCR's.
Golfer IRL? : Yes.
Interests / hobbies: Golf (doh), mountaneering, climbing, chess, guitar
USE aspirations: doing my best

I wanna play too dad! (;
Real name: Stephen
Country: Texas (you see that right)
TGCT membership: PGA/TST
Course Designer: Nopers, although I'd like to get into it eventually...
Favourite Courses on TGC: Don't know the answer to this.
Golfer IRL?: Yes! Was a scratch in my college days but now I play for fun and love being the scramble ringer (; I can hit the ball pretty far and accurate but my putting is atrocious.
Interests / hobbies:Anything I can be competitive in, watching my teams, going on adventures, spending time with my soon to be wife, spending time with family....and a lot more. I just like doing lots of different things (:
USE aspirations: Have fun and hopefully win a few tournaments. Haven't won one yet but hopefully that changes soon! Also, I'd eventually like to maybe play rounds with someone else. Could be fun(: Art has been after me for a while but our schedules are on different wavelengths unfortunately......

Real name: Leon country- England Tgc tour- euro (in TERRIBLE form recently, could be on verge of relegation)
Designer- I've published one course that had some good ideas and a couple of nice holes, but overall I'm rubbish.
Hobbies- watching all kinds of sports, (I watch EVERY game of Liverpool FC and Toronto raptors) playing sport (less recently, unfortunately) consuming music: at home, in clubs, at gigs, at festivals. Annihilating box sets with my wife.
Favourite courses- so many! Firestone became an instant favourite after we were there last season; harbor town, spyglass, Sawgrass, East lake, medinah, (all those tougher US courses)
Golfer irl? Not really. Had a period Of 4-5 years where I played with a work colleague every now and again (he was a mid 80s to low 90s on fairly easy courses type player) I think I have a nice swing and am capable of some really nice shots, but well over half my shots are duffs. Very hard and annoying game!
USE goals: want to be significantly under par most weeks.

For the benefit of those that may be new, or don't know-
Real name : Kevin
Country: USA, NC TGCT membership : CC-G/Z Course Designer : No. I tried one and got about 3 holes done, and from that i have great respect for those of you that do this. Published courses : none Favorite Courses on TGC: I like the ones that are or at least seem real, but have lots of character. My favorite one off the top of my head is the Scarlett Inn, Germany one. That is fictional, but it just seems to me it could be a real place, and I love the buildings in the background, it all just seems so neat. I'm bigger on aesthetics than anything. I also like that Lake Sofia one.
The courses that I HATE are the ones where it just seems like the designer took the game, and put hazards right where they knew people were going to be hitting, or made their courses extra challenging so the loft boxers and shot shapers could have a challenge.
Golfer IRL? : No, not really. I played casually about 30 years ago. We had "sort of" a league at the place I worked then. Even then it was just for fun and excersice. We werent' real serious about it, it was just an excuse to go out every Thursday evening and play nine holes for fun. My boss at that time was really an avid golfer though, so he took me to some nice courses and paid for it, and me and my dad would go out and play for fun and father/son time, but again, nothing real serious, we just had fun.
Interests / hobbies : PC video games. I am older, but still a gamer. I started gaming back in the early 80s and never stopped. still enjoy all sorts of games on PC master race. I've always built my own gaming rig, never a premade one. I also like being outdoors. USE aspirations : I don't pretend to be in the running for the top spot. I play here because I like the people in this society, and I like what this society stands for. Good friendly competition with people that enjoy the game as it was probably meant to be played. Everyone is honorable, or seems to be. Getting along with each other and having friends to compete with is more important than winning. Playing realistically but still having fun is more important than the score. Thats why I play here.

Here goes...
Real name: Nina Martin
Country: Canada
TGCT membership: CC-E
Course Designer: No. too many good designers to get involved.
Published Courses: None
Favourite Courses on TGC: Don't have a fave per se, but love playing Pebble Beach.
Golfer IRL?: I was a serious golfer up until 10 years ago. Started when I was 10 and at the peak of my golf playing days, averaged about 80 rounds a year.
Interests / hobbies: Long distance hiking, Bowhunting, fat biking, travel, Aussie Rules Football
USE aspirations: I'm not a contender in the societies, but I love to play. I'm retired, hubby and I live off-grid, so as it is winter right now and lots of snow, play golf a lot to pass the time. Come April, I'll likely be reattempting the Appalachian Trail...if my shoulder is better.

Real name: Jeff
Nicknames: J-Bird, Big J
Country: USA (Midwest)
TGCT membership: CC-E/TST Course Designer: Yes - I generally do fantasy, but try to make them seem to be like they could be real places. I initially started doing an RCR (Cog Hill #4 - Dubsdread - home of PGA Western Open in the 90's), but decided if I was going to put in all the time into the design of a course, I wanted it to at least be my own creation. Went back to school later in life and got a BS/BAS degree is Video Game Art & Design - did some side stuff but never actually worked in the field, which is generally why I like the designer so much.... Hope you enjoy my courses if you play any of them!
Published Courses: See my signature line
Favourite Courses on TGC: Don't really have just one favorite as there are so many great courses to play.
Golfer IRL?: Yes, though it has been a good 15 years or so since I actually played (time!!)- was just casual player when I did - not HCP'd or anything - best round was 90
Interests / hobbies: Video Games (gamer since I was a kid - I'm nearing 50 now and still a kid at heart), Designing courses, Playing Poker, Techie stuff, Playing neighborhood 12" softball, Bowling (though I haven't done that in a while either - was a 205 HCP - highest game is 290 - spare in the first frame and then all strikes!!), pretty much anything that I can be competitive in.
USE aspirations: For now, just getting used to it, though playing on TST does help that. I do like the fact that I can shoot 3 or 4 under and still feel like I have a chance at placing well. Not sure I'll ever win, but still love the competition. Plus, the community with tgctours and all of you USE people are just amazing.
Other notes: August will mark my 30 year anniversary with the company i'm with - Hendrickson. We make Truck Suspensions. I started when I was 19 on a 30 day contract - turned 20, then 7 days later they hired me full-time - I've been with the company more than half my life !! Doesn't feel that way though..
Anyway, enough banter - glad to be a part of the USE society!

Bowling (though I haven't done that in a while either - was a 205 HCP - highest game is 290 - spare in the first frame and then all strikes!!) Same here! I have you beat on a tiebreaker though, having bowled my 290 with what I didn’t know at the time was a broken sesamoid bone in my foot lol. Limped every approach and threw at least 5mph slower than normal, with a big assist from the beers of course to dull the pain. Never even came close to ever matching that game again, go figure. I was around a 185-190 avg bowler for years, could never get above that range but I was really just there to drink anyway.

Ah, my best game is 278, though I have played over 750 on three Always a frame that ruins that 300.. 185-190 average is not bad at all. I think I was just a little over 200 average when I played active. My biggest struggle was short oil, much better with heavy oil.
